Howdy! My 2003 Accord coupe has an annoying vibration in the steering wheel. Originally it started at around 50 KM/H. I took it in and had the suspension and linkage etc inspected. Everything checked out. Had the wheels balanced. This helped with the low speed vibration. Now the vibration seems to surface around the 90-100 KM/H speed. It is also intermittent but does seem to be getting worse. There is no vibration when I brake. The dealer suggested I replace the front pads and rotors if it continues. I'm skeptical about this since there is no vibration in the brake pedal. The car only has 82,000 KM on it.
Any suggestions?
Hey man,
If the balancing act moved the vibration around it's possibly still with one of the wheels. Look for a shop with a Road Force balancer and get them redone. Possibly you've hit a curb or something this winter and bent the rim? This could cause a vibration as well.

^This. Start with the simple stuff first. Get the wheels roadforce balanced, this will rule out the wheels and any defects/irregularities that may have developed in the tires. If you have a set of summer tires swapping those on and seeing if the vibration goes away is another good way to rule out your wheels.
Once you've completely eliminated wheels as a potential cause there's a long list of components to checks. I'd start with wheel bearings, tie rods, ball joints and all your steering linkages, altough it sounds like some of those have already checked out ok.
Having your alignment checked wouldn't hurt either, I've seen a alignments that are a few degrees out cause vibrations.
Rotors are a potential cause, but it's pretty rare. They spin with the wheel, so a rotor that's out of balance for some reason can theoretically cause a vibration issue.
I spent months tracking down a vibration in the SLK...turned out to be a bad winter tire that was only detected on a second roadforce test...Ended up replacing most of the items mentioned above. My Mercedes Specialist was pretty adament that it was rotors, until he replaced them without results.
