If you think the base FWD CLA is "sporty", you aren't using logic. It's closer to an ES350 than a Cadillac ATS.

Anyways...GM says it's a 3/4 Series competitor.

OK. You didn't tell me you were drunk. We can discuss this later.

I've driven both.  Have you?  I'd not call the base CLA sporty (I think it's a POS actually).  Just like I wouldn't call an ES350 sporty.  Whereas an ATS is sporty.

But none of this matters anyways since the CLA isn't an ATS competitor.

Compelling in isolation, but I still don't see how it's better than its competitors in any appreciable way.

I also find the engine options odd given the power/torque comparison.  The true issue isn't whether you enjoy driving it, but what's it like to live with?  With so little interior and cargo space, there are just more compelling rides out there for $55k+
LOL, go buy a Corolla you`re not good enough for this.

They look sharp and have excellent driving dynamics, kinda what folks want in this type of car. Not DOA either, there are a few in my hood as well (one being V coupe)

I think coupes are a hard sell no matter what brand they come from. I think  it's great that Caddy still offers a 2 door.

I like the Cadillac styling for about the first three quarters, but the rear quarter just looks weird for some reason.  The CT6 seems to do a much better job in that regard, although i haven't actually seen one yet in the flesh.

The front end looks particularly good with the vertically stacked headlamp assembly.  I don't think this design looks very good in red though.

This car is so DOA.  Buzzy turbo and the killer ... Stop/Start.  What a joke.  What in the world is going on with GM. ???  Just when they look they the have broken out of their bankruptcy era funk completely they come out with this stuff.
Wait, doesn't the Lexus IS have a buzzy turbo too in base form?  Doesn't Infiniti as well in the Q50?  Oh wait, pretty much all of them do now...

Buzzy?  Definitely not in the Lexus.  Not sure about the Infiniti.  And FWIW, I didn't find the ATS particularly buzzy.

personally, i don't mind the looks (but i prefer the sedan), and i think this cars seems pretty decent...but personally, if i wanted to spend $50k on something "luxury", i'd have a pretty hard time passing up a nicely equipped V6 AWD Genesis (or whatever the new one is called, G60 or something like that)...i know, not really a competitor (more of a luxury sedan than a luxury sports sedan), but you get my drift.

that said, i think the Caddys are worlds better than the Lincolns...man, has Ford ever let that brand rot.

Show me exactly where GM lists the ATS's competitors. I don't think they said what you think they said.

Regarding the ES, you are completely out to lunch.

The only place the ES tops the CLA in performance is straight line speed, with the CLA at 6.3 seconds to 60 and the ES at 5.8. In every other parameter the CLA is streets ahead.

C&D had the lateral acceleration of the base CLA at 0.9 while the ES350 pulled a very mundane 0.77. They said the CLA's suspension was set up on the sport end of the spectrum and borderline harsh while they said the ES had the expected very compliant ride and lacklustre braking. There's also $US10k difference between the base prices.

I'm sure GM is thrilled that the comparative merits of the CLa and ES are being thoroughly hashed out in an ATS thread. :-)

Oh, and if GM really thinks the ATS competes against the CLA and 2 series then I have really missed the message. As have most of the authors of ATS reviews that I have read.
Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

It's the entry Cadillac, until the new FWD entry car comes online. Its price straddles both lines. Size-wise it's closer to the smaller cars.

I never once said it only competed against the 2 and CLA.

The ATS starts at $36k, the CLA  at $35k, the C-class at $43k, the 2 at $36, the 3 at $40k.

You don't know WTF you're talking about.  It's right at their website.  ::) Competitor to the 3/4 Series and MB C Class (not CLA).

It's now clear you're the one who doesn't know who GM thinks the competition is.  I am not shocked that you'd make up new competition to bolster your BS about a GM product.   ;D

The pricing structure only confirms you're OTL. The ATS is priced right at the 2 and CLA, and significantly less than the C-class and 3 series.

Link to the GM statement?

I'm not OTL.  It's GM who's OTL...(they said it, not me).   But I know you can't bear to say that yourself.  Unlike you, I don't make up stuff and actually looked to see who GM says their competition is before posting.  Don't worry.  I forgive you though.    Link?  www.cadillac.com  Surely they must know more than you because they moved to New York don't ya know!!   :rofl2:

After you check the link, please be sure to post "I'm sorry RRocket..you were right and I was wrong.  The 3/4 Series and the MB C Class is the correct competitors per GM".

I'll be waiting!!   ;)
