While the Sorento offers a lot to like on the surface, Tom Sedens finds the harsh ride and build quality fail to deliver full value

Whoa...wait a sec here...No power tailgate...That's it...patooey....I spit in it's general direction..And then..No cooled seat for the passenger..What's going on here?..What a torture chamber! Sacre bleu! Just joshing, but a bit harsh, I would say...but I never had a power lift-gate, or cooled seats..So...who am I to nit pick...Thanks bro   Jack

Or you could wait for the 2014 model out this 1/4, which appears to address many of the concerns raised.

Haha! Yeah, when you look at my nitpicks in a standalone reader comment, they seem a bit trivial. That they are.

At this price point, it's quite unusual, especially for this kind of vehicle, to forgo a power liftgate. And as goofy as it might seem for me to :censor: about the non-cooled passenger seat, I figured it was just as goofy for them not to include one - when there's one for the driver.

For the record, I too have lived a life of hardship, and have not had the joy of having an electric motor open my own liftgate. Nor have I had my buttocks chilled by my automobile.

This one has been around for quite some time, so the now-usual features like power liftgate and more modern interior will not come around until the next major re-do.
At this price, I'd pick the Pathfinder.  It seems like the value leader when it comes to 7-seat crossovers these days.

if going for a 7-seater, I'd go with a minivan, but I also don't require AWD or clearance in most of my daily travels. if i did, I'd want the Santa Fe XL or CX-9 in this category. I'm surprised this got just a refresh for 2013, because it likely won't be long before it follows the Santa Fe XL onto the new platform.
Do I contradict myself?

Well, 7-seater crossovers are for people who only use the 3rd row seats occasionally and need(WANT) AWD, IMO.  I happen to fall in that category :)

I think Santa Fe XL will be a good choice too, but it's not available yet.. The refresh on the CX-9 is nice, but the price/feature isn't very compelling compared to the Pathfinder.

Great review, really like the fact that it was in Edmonton, so when you say the ride is harsh....I know its not a great vehicle for our Afghanisatan-esque roads!
Lighten up Francis.....

I'm surprised this got just a refresh for 2013, because it likely won't be long before it follows the Santa Fe XL onto the new platform.

as was mentioned the 2014 model will be out in a few months and 80% of the model is new including the platform.

Haha, I was wondering which of the Edmonton readers would catch that. Yep. I had it during a gross, melty, slushy week, and I knew if I drove it more than a block from the car wash, trying to get pictures of it clean would be pointless.

The Husky on the other side of the fence is my home-base car wash, so I did what I could.  Good eye!   ;D

Well if you happen to review an S-Class, 7 Series, or A8, I'd recommend using the backdrop I did for my Elantra: it's the house you can't miss when going southbound over the Quesnell.  ;D
