One would think that strategic locations have been equipped with charging stations?

Unlike the UK vintage car run this is a procession of brand new cars distinguished only by their silence and, presumably,  great big stickers announcing the event?   OK. Have fun.

There is a Dodge Ram pulling a massive generator along with us.  It charges the EVs I believe

I don't know the route yet, but we are trying to achieve good mileage without hypermiling.  We are sticking to secondary roads

Sounds like a great event, I'm just sorry you didn't get up into central Ontario.

It also sounds like too much going on in only 3 days but I guess you will be able to get some sense of the directions automotive development might take.

Have fun!

Cheers,
John M.

that's hilarious!

Is it charging them while you drive? I'm sure it will really help convince everyone who sees the tour that there is no issue with range anxiety...

see, now that is why this "Think Green" stuff always fails in the real world...so you have all these high tech (and often expensive) electric and hybrid vehicles, using rare earth metals (which often have a high carbon footprint in terms of the production of them) driving around promoting "green" and "responsible", only to require some big thirsty Dodge Ram with a massive generator to charge them...any gains made from the vehicles are likely lost from its portable power source...i know, i know, it's only there for the trip, but what kind of message does it really say?!?...i just find it all rather ironic, but sad, considering tax dollars that should go to education and health care are instead funneled to EVs so rich people get yet another tax credit for buying them.
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

AMG CLS....awesome, now thats my kind of eco vehicle. A Dodge Ram pulling a generator to fill up the "golf carts"......I wonder how many of the hippie types are going to finally understand that electric cars dont work.
Lighten up Francis.....

Without pictures, I can only assume they have something like the Eaton DC quickcharger and generator mounted to the trailer. These can bring an electric car from 0 to 80% charge in under 30 minutes. They are the equivalent of the CAA bringing stranded motorists a couple of gallons of fuel.

Using electric cars for cross country trips at this stage is like pounding nails with a screwdriver. Not that that has anything to do with how people would actually use an electric car, ie commuting and trips around town.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

and Hybrids don't work either if you look at the big picture, it's all about perception of being environmentally responsible, people buy that.

CLS = 10.8 L/100 km
Cruze Eco = 4.7 L/100 km
Escape 1.6L EcoBoost = 7.9 L/100 km

That is all I drove so far.
