Also, I'm not sure if adding the honest profile of Kyle would make a better film anyway. Or maybe? Dunno.
See, that's where we differ. I REALLY think it would make a better film. We're constantly reminded that it's the "best and brightest" that defend America and that's really not the truth. There's no question that Kyle was patriotic, loved his country and his unit brothers and was extremely proficient at his craft. But he was a lying, braggadocios, sociopath. I want to hear the story of how these broken, imperfect men are the ones doing the ugly work defending the country, not some inaccurate puff piece like this (and Lone Survivor). The documentary "Murph: The Protector" about Michael Murphy (one of the SEALS killed in Lone Survivor) was far, far more interesting than the movie itself IMO.
I would love to have the truth, warts and all. I think it's more fascinating....and easier to relate to these men IMO. It's one of the reasons Ken Burn's Civil War documentary is the best I've seen. All of these flawed, complex figures and how they lived, fought and shaped America.
