We saw this movie at a screening where some of the athletes were in attendance and my daughter got to meet and chat with her ski-hero, and we got some swag too.  Now, of course, we own it.  If you like cool ski flicks, it's one to get.

I caught the afternoon show of American Sniper.  LOVED this movie, and I' highly recommend it.  I wasn't aware of the story behind the person in this movie at all.  This will be a must purchase for me once it's out on blu ray.

Just watched it.  Great movie as well.

Not sure if better than birdman.  Glad I didn't know the story makes the movie better.

The guy was a pathological liar in real life. I have mixed feelings about seeing this.

It's a good, entertaining movie. Nothing amazing though. I need to read up a bit more on Chris Kyle now that I've seen the movie.

You'll say "WOW" when you finish reading up about him.  And probably not in a good way.   ;D

I understand that a great deal about him was left out of the movie as it would have really spoiled the patriotic overtones and heroic message of the movie.

Now, there's no doubt that Kyle served his nation and was a superb soldier that is easily one of the most proficient snipers of all time, but his true personal life is not reflected.  And honestly, since the movie was directed by "everyone chant USA" Eastwood, I'm not surprised.  Also, I'm not sure if adding the honest profile of Kyle would make a better film anyway.  Or maybe?  Dunno.

See, that's where we differ.  I REALLY think it would make a better film.  We're constantly reminded that it's the "best and brightest" that defend America and that's really not the truth.  There's no question that Kyle was patriotic, loved his country and his unit brothers and was extremely proficient at his craft.  But he was a lying, braggadocios, sociopath.  I want to hear the story of how these broken, imperfect men are the ones doing the ugly work defending the country, not some inaccurate puff piece like this (and Lone Survivor).  The documentary "Murph: The Protector" about Michael Murphy (one of the SEALS killed in Lone Survivor) was far, far more interesting than the movie itself IMO.

I would love to have the truth, warts and all.  I think it's more fascinating....and easier to relate to these men IMO.  It's one of the reasons Ken Burn's Civil War documentary is the best I've seen.  All of these flawed, complex figures and how they lived, fought and shaped America.

I don't think that 160 sniper kills in a place like Iraq is to terribly difficult from long distance when essentially you are shooting ppl moving around their own neighbourhoods resisting an foreign army that has just destroyed your country and pretty well kills everything that moves.

The US armed forces in Iraq really got handed a really bad hand.  A sh*t storm that no army on earth could control for any length of time.  Essentially, a useless waste of life and treasure for all parties.  But the ppl back home need a reason to believe so the army/government manufacturers a HERO.

RR is under playing what a dirt bag this guy really was.  But, his death was absolutely poetic.

Hubris is what killed him. The guy who killed him had extreme PTSD. So much so that anything could set him off. His family even had all of his guns removed from his house. So what does Kyle do? He takes him to a shooting range....and the rest is history.

Watched FURY yesterday. Thought it was a good movie but doesn't bring anything new to the war films (is there anything new to bring?). Would like to find a feature on how it was filmed as there was nothing on the BD rental from Redbox.

Both picture and sound are reference with tonnes of great explosions to blow up your subwoofer. Play it loud.

Saw American Sniper today and thought it was quite good. Mad Max: Fury Road looks pretty wild based on the trailer.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to that one.

Just watched Nightcrawler. It's really, really good. Jake Gyllenhaal has been really impressive in his recent roles.

If they use the same mix (which I'm sure they do) I doubt many if anybody could tell the difference between DVD and BD.

Lucy. I think I was expecting more by way of an action movie. Not bad, wife wished we would've rented Maze Runner instead.  I just think that's probably just another Hunger Games or LoTR type movie, been there done that.  Which I guess would mean Lucy compares to Transcendence...in that the human spirit is downloaded into the digital realm.  She didn't much like that one either. Oh well, Scarlet > Depp any day, at least to look at.  ;D
Lucy was  ::), Maze Runner  :P
