I do not understand this urge to even think of inflicting violence on people  ???

Do people think it is manly to think this way ?

I guess as a cultural we still have a long way to go  :'(

Nothing that couldn't be fixed  by 50 lbs of Semtex under the floor of Queens Park...it is not as if it is a particularly attractive building.

Yes we do.   We should go back to electing conservatives with a large majority then there would be no need to inflict violence on the socialists.

Very much this. Another Tory like Harris, and Ontario is sunk. Not that Wynn or McGuinty were in any way competent.

:iagree:  Davis did do a lot of good for the Province, McGuinty set us back & Wynn inherited his fcuk-ups!!  Let's face it, any of the 3 parties could do a good job if the economy was strong, if growth was happening and there were no mistakes to clean up from the last group in charge.  If Trudeau can get things moving at the Federal level, the Provinces will rebound as well.  Living in Ottawa makes me/us very sheltered though, as we don't feel the crunch as badly  :-\

Damn it!  Got a $290 photo radar ticket in the mail.  Doing 47 km/h in a 30 km/h school zone.  One of those zone's where it's only applicable between set times.  Sigh, this was the last thing I needed going into an expensive summer season.  Plus those school zones are so easy to miss.

There's a farm I pass by every day.  They have several Muscovy ducks who wade in the water by the road.  Every now and then they cross the street to get to the other ditch, puddle, go for a walk, etc.  On my way to work this evening, I see 2 of them in the road.  No biggie...there are huge ducks..nearly the size of a goose.  Traffic stops for them.  Not this time.  A woman in an SUV runs them over.  She pulls over immediately (not sure why though).  But I can't believe she didn't see them.  This really annoyed me...
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Only scum of the earth speed in school zones.   Enjoy your ticket.  ;D

How are they easy to miss?  Hint: They're usually beside a school.

There's been a real problem with inconsistent or non-existent signage near Winnipeg school zones.

We have a lot of older school in Edmonton where the signs are covered up by trees and bushes.

Fair enough, and I'm mostly just needling GBA.

But in general, unless we're talking about a very central (likely old) school on a major urban road, I don't understand why anyone is doing even close to 50 km/h near residential schools.

In fact I think the limit of 50 km/h is dangerous is most residential areas.   Speed limits should be 40 km/h in all residential areas, 50 in other urban streets  (60 on more "thru routes") and then 100 on country roads and 120 on highway.   More like Europe.  It makes no sense how the difference in speed limit in front of my driveway and on the 401 is only 50 km/h.   Our speed laws are stupid and not targeted at truly dangerous situations.

Way to tell them, dad!

ps, I'm with ya!

Haha.   It's true though!

Higher relative speeds (50 km/h) in residential areas make no significant difference to a person's commute time and greatly increase public danger.   It's all about major highway speeds being moved up and lowering the speeds for streets with homes and schools on them.

I'm generalizing here (PC alert!!!), but the number of women I've seen drive through my area in their CUV, leaning over the wheel like they can barely see the road in front of them, and doing 50-60 km/h is scary!   If a kid strolls in front of them, I'm 90% certain that kid is toast.   And for what?  So that lady can get to her hot yoga class in 6m 32s instead of 6m 43s?    Let's be real here.

To divide up speed limits into too many buckets gets confusing. Even I don't use a 40km/h limit.

In Germany and France, urban limits are 50, except on living/very residential streets where it is a Zone 30, and these are generally very limited.

The difference is that sidewalks in residential areas are not built right next to the street, rather there is a tree or parking buffer. And drivers pay attention.

I was with you right up to about here.  Besides, I thought crappy women drivers all drove Civics, not CUVs (since we're generalizing here).

I have to walk my kid past one school to get to his school and I see some crazy stuff.  My neighborhood has a grid-like layout and the stretch between the two schools is long, wide and arrow-straight. The cops would probably have a field day there if they ever set up a photo radar station there.
