That gen Legacy also had the engine seal issue? If it did it might be worthwhile to go back and include that in the article to see if it had been dealt with by the previous owner.
Which seal?  Are you talking about the cylinder head gasket?

my guess is the head gasket.    that was one issue with our 1999 Forester.
I can't remember when this issue was resolved though.

I think it was around 2008.  A co-worker here just had his 2005 Forester blow a headgasket.  $3000 later...

One of these things is not like the other... *cough* crosstour *cough*

And the 2.5L subaru head gasket failures are associated with the naturally/aspirated engines... Find yourself an XT or GT and you're good to go!  (Outback of this era is also an actual wagon)

I'm also a fan of the older BMW wagons, I always have to do a double take on the rare time I see one around town.  That CTS is also a looker.

Didn't the wagon only come with the 6 cylinder in North America?

Correct. And it wasn't available for '08.

The 6 wagon was available as early as 2006.

We're just saying it was discontinued after '07. It was available from '04-'07 in Canada.

Yes sorry, the head gasket. On this gen I say its as important as asking about the timing belt.

Great report!!! I would love an SRT8 Magnum just because big V8 = awesome. The Legacy GT would also be a great family truckster.

I'm sure you love and remember this classic Magnum commercial which perfectly captured the concept of "hauling".  "Velocity meets Versatility." It still makes me smile...

Great article.  I own 2 wagons and they are awesome. My wife has  a 2011 VW golf wagon tdi and i recently bought a 1998 volvo V70 for a steal of a deal.  Bought the Volvo off a Gramma, serviced at the dealer all the time, love it!  I like camping so wagons are the best without having to buy a SUV or a truck.  Going camping with my VW  full with my Wife,Daughter, dog in the back, cargo box and pulling a light weight tent trailer i can still do 7L\100km on the highway... not bad.  I'm still waiting to spot a unicorn tho!  A wagon  diesel 6sp manual AWD with descent towing capacity
