Spent the weekend in NYC for my buddy's bachelor party. Was a great time. It involved much beer.
On the drive down we stopped in Portland where we went to Novare Res which is a great beer bar. Just a brick walled basement full of picnic table-style seating and a lot of beer choices. Here's what the had on tap alone:
Then the first night in Brooklyn we hopped amongst three bars all of which had decent beer selection. Come 2 AM most of the guys had retired for the night but four of us went to a place called Barcade - basically an arcade that has a bar. We walked in and I think my jaw literally dropped when I saw the menu:
NINE Bruery beers on tap?!? It was a good thing we went on Friday because we stopped in all three nights and each time they had less and less. The Tart of Darkness was incredible.
On Saturday we did a brewery tour Other Half Brewing in Brooklyn. In an amazing coincidence, the guide had served a couple of the guys three years ago on Labor Day Weekend in a Manhattan bar and remembered them because it had been a particularly crazy day for him. He was very knowledgable and gave us great insight into the equipment they used and their entire process. We tried a few of their IPAs and a couple saisons (including a delicious black one).
The brewery was in a very nondescript building with zero signage. You're not going to stumble on their tasting room by accident:
On the way home I picked up some treats. Sorry Shane, no Two Hearted Ale.
