Not that there would be anything wrong with a 350HP Malibu to surprise a few "performance" cars out there  ;D

Very nice review for a car that is nicely thought out and screwed together. I quite liked it when I fist saw it on the road a couple of months back. But this morning, I saw one in white, just like the tester, and I gotta say white is NOT a good match for this car. White is classy, and while the Malibu looks quite 'modern', it's definitely not classy.

I want to say a class compare with the perennials, and I won't be surprised if the Malibu comes out on top.

I haven't yet seen one on the streets here, so I'm not sure how well they're selling.  It is a big improvement over the previous gen, but to me the styling makes it look rather, shall I say, porky, especially across the haunches.  I agree that white doesn't do this car any favors.

Oh it'll still be rental fleet fodder - count on that.  But at least now that's not the only reason any rational person would buy one.  Looks like they did a good job.

Thanks for bringing my typo to my attention and sorry about that. Yes, it should read 250 HP and yes, it would be great if it would be 350!

Sorry guys, I'm in Mexico for a couple of weeks and my responses are ... slightly dulled these days. Haha! Otherwise I would have read this first thing when it published and caught it.

Sounds like a decent balanced car. That does not make it dull at all...it makes it OK. Styling...what do you do these days? Must be hard to come up with something new and pleasantly striking now...its a meld situation. Some have opted for garish grills in an effort to stand out. And they do that.
Anyway, from the report it sounds like a keeper. Rather a large tunnel in back for a FWD I wonder why if no drive shaft. It's hard to stand out in this segment I believe and even after doing so I understand the numbers are reduced by a movement to cross overs or whatever.

I look forward to driving the Hybrid version.  From many reviews they claim the Hybrid is the best and most balanced of the bunch to drive.
The Hybrid powertrain is heavily related to the Gen II Volt powertrain.  So it will have gobs of torque.  (182hp and 277lb-ft of torque).

Find a Mexico-market Ford Ranger to drive.

Looks like North America is crazy for fake hatchbacks - from BMW and Audi through Civic to Sonata and now Malibu...Is this the new norm? The times of Mazda6 with hatch option are obviously gone...

The A7 is a real hatch.

Fastbacks have been around for a long time.

I was thinking about hybrids and the Volt lately. How much do cars like the Malibu Hybrid qualify for Ontario rebates? Like am I looking at a huge price difference vs. the Lt?

I hear Lens Crafters has a 2 for 1 deal on.  You may want to look into it.

I love what they have done with getting some really serious weight reduction and at the same time kept the car "quiet and refined". I hate being forced to look at "big" (ie; long) cars but this with the 2.0 turbo like in mine might be an option to get decent power/torque to weight on a relative budget. Will they ever make something to compete with the soon to arrive Ford Fusion Sport with 325 HP and 350 torque? Unlikely, as they won't even put an existing 2.0 turbo engine into the Cruze and are eliminating my car next year.
