Audi version of 'I hope this isn't a sign ...'
« on: December 09, 2014, 08:45:09 pm »
The Q5's dual zone HVAC system will not switch into manual on the drivers side.   If I 'separate' the 2 zones the passenger side will switch but not the drivers side.    I only noticed as I wanted some hot air from the centre vents.
Anyway I'll take it in after Xmas.   One might hope that it is just one switch but I bet the whole panel will get replaced.

I will check it it has thrown a fault ( I have VCDS) and if it has I'll clear it and see what happens.

FGC.  VCDS is a wise investment.  Do you have a Bentley manual for it?  I find it really handy for helping with my VW problems.

Rocket    It all works just won't switch to manual     Just hit 10,000 Kms today

Spock   There  is not yet a Bentley for the 2013-2014  I have VCDS    I will buy a Bentley when available.

AirB   Have other stuff to do...I 99% just leave it in auto anyway

Northern   Not really.  Just two random errors/warnings which went away and a incorrect TPMS warning.  All in the depths of last winter.

:bang: :bang:   It hasn't broken.  My interpretation of the manual wrong.   To get out of auto hvac one has to hit one of   fan, air direction or defrost. Defrost is just binary on-off but the others have variability which is changed with the rotating knob which is usually temperature.  One can easily infer from the manual ( which unlike my M-B was definitely written by a native English speaker) that one has to turn auto mode off with the auto button before adjusting stuff.

Phew.

Went out in the cold this am. Car was half warm when I got back.   1/2 hour later went out again to go to an appointment.  Big red light, no power steering!.  restarted , same thing.
Went to appointment came back 3/4 hour later started car. Steering working.

This is the first fault that could prevent driving  at 24,000 km. I will see if it recurs.   Car will be in for scheduled maintenance soon so I'll mention it.

I don't think power steering is something you want to take any chances with. Take it to the dealer pronto.

I agree.

Any fault codes?

I'd say a power steering fault is something I'd get looked at sooner rather than later

The steering thing happened again this morning same weather as 2016.    Fixed itself as before after 1/2 hour.   My theory is a single drop of water from melting ice just lands on some connector somewhere.

Last time I checked for a code...none.   I did take it in and the dealer could find nothing.     This time the local indy thinks he would like it in while the weather is still cold.   That may be impossible for various reasons.

I dunno...I'm guessing more water when it rains then a drop from melting ice. But nothing happens when it rains...
