Test Drive: 2014 Audi A5

Despite being one of the oldest designs currently for sale, Audi's A5 is aging more gracefully than a Hollywood star.

Nice lines and aging well. Another PM at work told me his Wife just bought an S5. With retirement comes benefits! :P
Does the sun roof still just tilt and not slide? Noticed this when x-shopping with the G years back.
You can store more in the back seat than in a G (Q60) and the trunk is larger as well - certainly good for a few more 2 x 4's. ;)
The 4 cyl 2.0 needs a chip. The S5 just gets you to G (Q60) performance.

Do you realize that in about 30 (updated as requested) years, we'll have millions of old ladies running around with tattoos?

I love A5's and looking forward to what Audi will come with the B9. A 2016/17 S5 will be high on the list for my next car. Best looking coupe out there currently IMO

My fav Audi body style. I expect the next gen to be a very subtle evolution.

Lot to be said for consistency. The interior is practically the same as my Q5  but I don't have the push button start, drive select nor the two tone seats.

Yes, the roof is still a tilt-only affair.  Lots of glass area though for those who like light.

Is it APR that does the good re-tunes on those things? What'll put out for power with a modest application?

Agree with the others here, A5 still looks great - and likely will for years. But for me, as much as I like the looks, I'm just not into the large(ish) coupes (especially when it's priced a couple G over the already excellent sedan).  If the rear seat of a larger coupe isn't going to be useful anyway, then I'd prefer the coupe to be a little smaller and more nimble - more 2-series size than 4-series, if you will.  I have the same opinion about the pony cars, and midsize coupes like the Accord and Altima.  But I fully realize these vehicles are likely a style-dominated decision, not necessarily a rational one.

Of course, that new S-class coupe might change my mind about large coupes... :lick:

Very, very nicely styled car.

Exterior is beautiful, much better than lots of new cars out there. Interior needs a major upgrade...it looks dated, they have to follow the A6/A3 lead in these and refresh asap.

Gawd I love the A5, my favourite design. But I just can't justify the expense unfortunately. Oh woe is me.

If this thing were B-pillar-less it would be essentially perfect.

Lately I am trying to determine if Audi styling has true longevity (ie: 10, 12 years later...still cool?). Its a bit hard since it feels like Audi really only hit the big time ~5 years ago or so.

Also, sorry to be a grammar Nazi, but:

Isn't that what the S5 is for?  I think it needs a bit more of a diet than boost or displacement, almost 4000lbs! But I really like it.

Doesn't seem like a bad deal.

Wonder when we will see a used car review.  Like from 2008-2014 seems is a good chunk of time, same with the A4...

my boss bought the new RS5 cabrio earlier this year...sold his jag (which was going to be the winter beater) and is going to throw some winter tires on it (i suggested he might as well, since i'm sure with winter rubber that car will be pretty awesome in the winter).

Have to add my $.02 and say Audi makes cars that age so well. The A5 is just a great looking car. I wish I didn't need 4 doors.

car makers are touting an all-new model that’s infinitely better than the now-to-be-forgotten last year’s version.
I know this has nothing to do with the A5 - so I'll simply agree that it is ageing very well and I've always loved Audi's understated elegance - but I was at a Demo Derby this weekend (my first ever) and I swear I shed a tear for each and every one of this poor little (and big) cars (and trucks).  Other than cheering for the sake of being in 'MURICA, I seriously cringed to the tune of:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I07xDdFMdgw

...this coming from a guy who hates Chryi and GMs, and yet every car in the derby was a Caravan or a Cavalier.  RIPs.

...oh, and trucks are effing indestructible.  Holy f*ck, the damage those things took!  The truck derby lasted more than 30 mins!!!! (with cars lasting only 4 mins)
