Thx again!

The partial dealer fill-up is now down to just above the "red zone" of the fuel gauge (100km est. range by the trip computer), so it will get its first proper fill-up tonight. Now indicating 6.1 l/100km "since last fill-up" according to the display.

I'm really glad to have avoided premium-fed options. Costco used to have premium 8 cents above regular, now it's 12 cents. Of course, no diesel at Costco, and locally diesel is not advertised as it is on the rural highways, so we'll see what sort of pricing strategy is applied at Shell.

Filled her up with 40 litres of diesel. It was a weird experience to go against habits and fill-up a car with the diesel pump at a familiar gas station - we're wired to AVOID pumping diesel by mistake! No spilled fuel - all gaskets seem properly installed (re: Sir O's thread).

Diesel was 4 cents cheaper than regular, and Shell has a "premium diesel" that was priced at par with regular unleaded. The trip computer did an auto-reset after a one-way commute, I'm at 5.9 l/100km  :)

WTF is "premium diesel"?

As you can see the fuel gauge is very pessimistic. I believe the new TDIs have a 50 L tank (same as the GTI). I drove my car down to 0 km remaining yesterday and still only put in 42 L.

WTF is "premium diesel"?

It's this:

http://www.shell.ca/en/products-services/shell-for-drivers/fuels/shell-vpower-diesel.html

Now if they claimed it was only 5ppm Sulphur at the pump it would be worth buying if one had a modern small diesel.   I think the EU diesel limit is 10ppm now but my drop in Sept 2015 when Euro 6 emissions start.

A Pioneer I pass on the way to daycare has it 14 cents cheaper than regular.  I know its "only Pionner", but still, 0.99 cents a litre is pretty awesome!

Of course, regular is 1.199 these days in QC  ::), so diesel was 1.1599. On the upside, I'm down to 5.7 l/100km commuting (disclaimer - no traffic until back-to-school).

Congrats man.  Looks like VW's are popular with this crowd right now.  Welcome to the Golf family.  There really is a Golf for every buyer.  Looks great in the black and I too am puzzled that it was built almost a year ago.  I'm guessing this might have been at the factory for longer than usual waiting for the demand for a black comfortline TDI to pick up.

Keep us posted with the great fuel Econ numbers.

Probably waiting for this new gen.  Getting rid of that 2.5L, and dated (just a little!) 2.0L.

I had the full set of factory mudgards installed by the dealership. They require drilling, so by having them installing the parts the car's full warranty applies instead of the legal 1 yr / 20,000 km. And my target here was preserving the 12 year rust perforation warranty.

VW did away with in-wheel TPMS (Yaayyy!!!), so the winter tire swap won't bring added issues, other than a reset through the MIB. I grabbed a set of 15" take-off "Lyon" alloys from a new Golf Trendline on kijiji, so the car will keep its good looks during the ugly season. For the inside, I will order WeatherTech FloorLiners - these have been great in the Odyssey, and I'm done scrubbing salt stains in carpeting!!
I got WeatherTech's for my Golf R and they're excellent as always.  I always have to correct people when they say "nice matts", these are floorliners, and there is a difference.

In the interest of science, I hit 140 km/h on this morning's commute. The DSG has the TDI engine at 2300rpm at that speed.

The people who say that, don't know there is a difference between a Golf, and Golf R either! :-)

My S2000 runs ~ 4000rpm at 120km.  My friend with a 2011 TDI wagon got a real kick out of than t when he took it for a drive.  :)

This weekend I washed my kijiji finds, and off to Costco we went to get a new set of Blizzaks while the Bridgestone rebate was on and at-store inventory was plentiful.

For 508$, 15% sales tax included, I have a fresh set of 195/65R15 WS80s mounted on my alloys and waiting in the garage for a) frosty weather or b) December 15 mandatory snow-tire date in QC.

Sure was funny getting new snow tires in 40 degree humidex!

Next up: WeatherTech.

Sometimes you don't memorize certain features that were not "must haves", then suddenly realize your car has them.

It was my first night drive on a non-lighted road tonight, and I switched on the high beams. When I saw an oncoming car, I reached for the switch...but the Golf had already dimmed all by itself  :)

Wonder if she will un-ding herself too?

Leave it to me to try the Golf on a highway trip for the first time during the VW cheat-gate.

My commuting so far netted 5.8 - 6.2 l/100km, so I expect to maybe dip in the 4's. It did, and then some: trip computer was at 4.1 l/100km at destination, and told me I had a remaining range of 850km after driving 250. I could drive from Montreal to Charlottetown on one tank at 100km/h!!

My trip was done is sunny warm weather, a/c on, cruise at 119 km/h. And my car polluted less than all the Harleys and trucks riding the t-Can  ;)
