With repositioning the Passat VW seems to be trying to make the CC their upscale "German" offering. Not sure how that will work with the limited rear space issues. VW seems to be having a bit of an identity crisis trying to go more high volume mainstream (new Jetta and Passat) while still having "premium" European offerings in some catagories ($50K V6 CC, $50-65K Touareg, GTI/GLI etc etc).

I like the CC but it doesn't seem to fit in with the "new" VW image/product line for North America.

My boss owns own, 2.0T with 6 speed manual. My head is just barely under the roof when I sit in the back, at 6'-1", but legroom is good, what you would expect from a slightly smaller midsize.

The new corporate front end does nothing for the look of the CC except to cheapen it by making it look almost identical to the Passat head on. The back end is a slight improvement over the trunkated look of the previous model by stretching and heightening the deck lid a bit. Overall I'd say the styling is getting pretty dated and would have benefited from a more pronounced makeover. Then again I'm a strong believer in restricting the coupe look to coupes. The extra doors simply look out of place and make it look awkward. That also applies to other makes that have taken on this design theme, IMO.

Thank heavens for that, I say. Most of the "new VW" offerings hold little or no appeal for me. The CC is a very nice ride - one I could happily own. Very nice style to my eye (though the most recent tweeks are not a net improvement), first rate interior materials and very composed driving dynamics. It looks, feels (and is) a cut above the mainstream midsize Camcordimanatabu offerings. The V6 is a poor value proposition, but the 2.0T offers a good deal for the money, particularly if you resist the pricey options. This and the GTI are the only VW cars I would even consider at present.

I have the 2011 CC and I agree with the reviewers who mention the front end of the new CC is not as nice as the old one. And even though the lights at the back look better I still wouldn't get it over my 2011 model. I am sure the ride is great. I have no complaints about mine thus far, but I've only had it for one year. So far so good - drives great, cheap on gas, and looks amazing. I was a honda/acura guy before this...would never get any of the new crop of ugly acuras...so for this money, the 2.0T CC was really my only viable option...

Is there a reason why VW has shied away from offering the DSG in the 3.6 V6 model and instead offers a conventional automatic transmission ? This also applies to the current CC offerings. Was always curious about this.

The new 5-seater version, along with the 2.0t and the 6-speed stick, makes the CC rise to the top of the list for car enthusiast Dads like me. Always liked this car but never understood the ridiculous rear buckets.

What is the formula for L, HP and # of cylinders that they should be following? Besides, how much HP do you really want going to the front wheels.

Too bad AWD is only an option on the full-zoot Highline. It would be rather unique with AWD at the mid-$30k price point, but I'm sure the sales numbers wouldn't justify it.

When other manufacturers are breaking the 300hp plateau using 3.5+L I could see how the 3.6L seems below avg, but 280 still gets a check in the "good enough power" category for me.

With all of .1L of additional displacement, Infiniti gets an additional 50-plus hp. I agree that 280 hp is entirely adequate - but considering that the V6 CC can be optioned up to G37-level pricing, I can see why some would hope for more.

FWIW I find the 2.0T quite adequate in this car.

VW has to be careful how much power they engineer into the Passat for fear of cannibalizing sales of the premium A6/A7. Some folks won't waver from their purchase of the premium Audi badge, but if the Passat is nearly as powerful as the 325-hp A6, and the body style of the CC is sleek enough, VAG may start to lose customers at Audi dealerships. As with many things, this is not a matter of 'if' they could engineer more power, but 'why'.

excellent points aaron...as well, we aren't talking about 5.0L Ford V8's that were used in Mustang GTs in the early 90s that "only made" 225HP.

For my taste, the overall looks have improved, expecially the rear end which has lost its droop. This is a car for someone who prefers the Euro Passat over the USA-Passat.

I have never liked the previous bib-style VW front end, but the new one is simply ordinary.

My wife has a 2010 Passat with the 2.0T / 6-speed manual combo and it is a very enjoyable drive.
