Quick Spin: 2013 Lexus GS 350 AWD

The redesigned 2013 Lexus GS is improved in many ways, but still fails to excite the senses quite how Lexus seems to think it should.

Although it's "mid-size" and competes with the Infiniti M, with the interior space grievances of the GS, how does it compare with the Infiniti G size-wise?

I agree with you on the interior space, especially rear seat room in Lexus models.  The IS for instance is terrible for rear seat leg room.  I think a Corolla has more rear seat space than the IS.

Interesting review. First mildly negative one I've read about the new GS. I was starting to think that I'd at least give the GS a look when it comes time to replace the Berlin taxi but I am not encouraged by your assessment.

Reminds me of the Infiniti M cars, I was very excited to test drive the M37x car but came away disappointed after going through it.

Although my own daily driver was, at the time of its intro, marketed as a car with "sporting" ability, I actually use said ability about twice a year.

Chris is just grumpy... the GS is great, although I doubt it improves over the E-Class, and if it does, it is by shades of nuance. I'd take the E-Class in this segment i think, although I have a soft spot for the XF...

I dunno...after reading so many positive reviews of the GS, both in terms of handling and overall I think Chris is the exception.  So his review goes in the crapper IMO.

Maybe he's secretly working in the marketing department of one of the Lexus' competitors... :-X

Or maybe Lexus didn't pay him off either.  Just sayin'

Big cars with small interior spaces  >:( A real gripe for me. Finding it harder and harder to ingress/egress and generally see out of trending styled vehicles with large pillars, small windows and high belt lines.
A graph on interior space information would be nice here of comparable vehicles.

First somewhat negative review of the new GS I've read as well.  Tough call between this and the Infiniti M.  I thought the GS looked better in person than in pictures.  I think the way the car drives would have to be the deciding factor for me.

I've test-driven both the AWD and the F-Sport RWD and I was impressed. I didn't come away disappointed at all. In fact, I'm seriously thinking about buying one in the spring to replace my aging Santa Fe. I've also tested the Audi A6, A4, and S6, and for the money, the Lexus has way more to offer, at least in my opinion. It may not inspire one to go racing, but for a daily driver, I think it has more than enough edginess to keep a former wheel-spinner and older dog like me quite happy. After all, I grew up on old Mustangs, Camaros, and big-ass V8's and this Lexus has similar acceleration numbers but a way more put-together package to wrap it in.  Audi and some of the other luxury brands have sketchy quality, IMO, but Lexus has always been in the top 3 for over a decade now, plus their dealerships, especially around where I live (Hamilton/Niagara) are the best of the bunch.

Lexus reliability and dealer quality certainly give them an edge on many of the German offerings. Now if they could just clone that Euro feel the Germans seem to build into their cars....

I've come to the conclusion long ago that I want a vehicle engineered and designed by MB or BMW with parts sourced and assembled by Lexus.  ;D

I wasn't hot on the new Lexus front end, but having seen it in person now, I like it.  Looks kinda odd in pics, but nicely proportioned in the tin.
