I'm happy with my car, but with buy-back value being set at 09/2015, my car was barely 2 months old at the time. That plus compensation (rumored to be 5000$) will have me doing the math - I may profit in the buy-back scheme, which will lead to a new car search  :banghead: So to honor forum rules, I have to pick between a Golf R, Miata or Crosstrek.

Local dealer has 36 TDIs in inventory - all dealers have been storing them locally.
If you do profit from the buyback scheme, would you buy another VW?
The 2016 Golf CL fixes the one thing I'd like to fix on mine: sound. The Fender stereo is now optional (HL exclusive in 2015), and nav + keyless access are now part of the pkg. Considering my new set of winter shoes and FloorLiners, another VW would be in the running, yes. Creative emissions engineering or not, it's still a stellar machine.

What about stepping up to a GTI?  Especially if they are "sympathetic" on the pricing?
I completely get the appeal of staying with another Golf, it's a great vehicle and if you've already got a bunch of accessories you can transfer over...

GTI will / would be tempting, but I'd have to sell off my winter shoes - the 15" alloys won't fit GTI brakes IIRC. I just came from my garage, where I swapped wheels on the Golf (it was parked for the last 3 weeks after a string of press cars). It's when you work on it that you realize the amount of details that stand out on this car. Even the foam thing that holds the tire tools is exquisite.

This week, I'm actually driving a lot of car for me and my laptop, and I have to admit it makes me feel totally boss.

Milestone: passed 10,000km this week.

VW's June 21st court date should tell me if I'll ever get to the 12 months / 12,000 km first service.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

I think you're both right. I just know that in my case, it's the 12 months that counts, so that's what I had committed to memory!

Thanks!  :) My state of mind was - is -  too complex for just a post  ;)

Part 2 will happen once I get an enveloppe with VW's offer to consumers (unless I get keys to an R8 and have to sign legal documents à la Musk).

Relax guys. VW has been down this road before, they've totally got this! You won`t even notice the new emissions kit.

The latest:. http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/business/volkswagen-emissions-settlement-1.3649369

still pretty vague about the fix.  I would not want he fix anyways.  Just give me $5,000 and I keep the car as is   ;D

Since my car was about 50 days old on September 18th, looks like I'm in for the full 7k$  :)

1. Why are you assuming you get more money for owning the car for less time?

2. I wouldn't make any assumptions for what in Canada based on what happens in the U.S.

1- Because although the EPA may want more money for the cars that have been over-polluting for the most time, I sense that for car owners the "lifetime warranty" approach may be taken, meaning the more time you used the product, the more value is deducted from your claim (hence more compensation for newer cars). But I agree that the amount could go both ways - we'll know for sure on June 28th.

2- VWoC already pledged to match the US deal up here. They did so far with the 1000$ "owner compensation package" - the amounts just keep the same nominal value.

I would still buy that car in the TDI model in a heartbeat!  It's beautiful and I'm glad you're still enjoying it despite all the crap about dieselgate.

US details are out and ...

1. The more recent and expensive the car, the larger the compensation is. My car is shown as 6500-7400 in the US chart (varies with trim, miles, options, ...).

2. VWoC did a 180 and now says the US deal may not be the Canuck deal  >:( - details on July 29th only  :banghead:
