Probably the last update on this car for the season  as the weather will be cold in no time, and I’ve got a bunch of house related projects lined up for the winter.

I got everything I wanted done with this, so that’s a nice feeling. Finished touching up paint and installed a bunch of new exterior rubbers to replace dry/cracked stuff. Got the last wheel (the spare) painted up, replaced a broken centre console latch, and probably some more little things I am forgetting.

The high-quality Bosch H4 conversion headlamps someone had installed in the car where foggy on the inside, despite being glass :S So I ordered some regular sealed beam replacements. Swapped them in to find out one was dead-on-arrival. Took a second look at the Bosch H4’s and discovered that I could take them apart and clean them, so about an hour of my time and I have crystal clear headlamps – and maintained the upgraded H4 bulbs  (which are much brighter than the stock sealed beams).

The underside of the hood looked like crap with dull paint and deteriorated insulation hanging off of it. I removed the old insulation and then waxed up the painted parts. My dad had a roll of silver insulation material lying around at his place, so I cut some to fit and installed it in the B. I am pretty happy with the way it looks, and will probably do the same to the blue `78 next season

The car is proving pretty reliable too, I’ll leave it sitting for weeks (on a maintainer) and it’ll fire right up, even in single digit temps. All electrics have been working fine as well.

Over the winter I need to source a driver’s side underdash hush panel (original is missing), and if I can find a good deal on an “LE” style front valence I’d jump on that too.

Come spring I’ll post it up for sale and drive it as a nice weekend car until I can find a new home for it. If anyone here is interest PM me and we can work out an autos.ca discount and some official tech support ;)

“Before” shot of the underhood

“After”

Weird shot from my phone…freshly detailed trunk and painted spare…and a wheel from the T/A I was polishing

Cleaned and ready to hibernate

Looks great. Those mesh Firebird wheels might actually look good on the B. If there weren't the wrong pattern/bolt count.

I know I said it was done for the year, but I had to move the car yesterday as I was working in the garage and I took the opportunity to take the obligatory beauty shots... Here's some of the better ones:

Car looks great!
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Thanks. I realized looking at that last shot that my driveway looks like ass. Some of those spots (the big ones for sure) are water from frost that was melting off the cars before I moved them - but there's plenty of oil stains too. Definitely time for a fresh sealer in the spring.

Does the B have overdrive?  None of the interior shots show the top of the gear lever which is where my switch was. Or did NA models have it on one of the stalks?
Edit: while checking wiki for the post below  it says that most cars with OD had the switch on the dash until '77  but mine was definitely on the gear lever.

If it doesn't I wonder how much a new gearbox tail end, the OD and a shorter driveshaft cost and whether they are made of unobtanium by now.

It would have to be late enough to have the 5 bearing engine so sometime in the mid 60s would be right...just checked: 65 model year or later.

Thanks everyone :D

This B does have overdrive, and it's a slider switch on top of the gearshift. Overdride is relatively rare on these and is now pretty desirable; a good used override trans runs about $1500 as retrofitting is quite popular.

I definitely wouldn't turn down the opportunity to do an earlier B, but I tend to care a lot more about the originality and condition of the car than the year, trim, etc. I'd take a solid original RB car like this one over a rusty, bondo'd or cheap respray earlier car any day.

There is a new project in waiting though.....Show & Shine will wait until the spring though.

Here's a quick shot from the day I found it, as I first saw it. It's now safely out of the elements awaiting spring and attention :)
