Single driver SUV 4-WD
« on: August 28, 2016, 02:57:50 pm »
Just wondering what the best Single driver SUV 4-WD is these days?  99.9% of the time I'm just driving with Me, Myself, and I, and some golf clubs, I'm really just looking for the stability of 4-WD or AWD, the higher seat position is nice but not essential.

There are a few out there, but the Consumers Report Buying Guide, gives most of them a VERY bad review, some look quite oddball and some seem to be very underpowered ???

Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places, although I would imagine that a Manufacturer would clean up "BigTime" if they could fill this spot ???

Maybe its' just "Me"  ???
LETS' DO THE "TIME WARP"... AGAIN!!!

???  Sorry, but I'm a bit confused. I've never heard the term "single driver SUV".  What do you mean?.....a sub compact?
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

POrsche 911 with the Dakar rallye suspension kit.   Coupe, AWD and I bet the golf clubs would fit in there somewhere.  It would get you to the golf club really fast and double as a 1 man golf cart.    A solution!

2 minutes later...I am not sure if that one was AWD but I bet later ones were.

Or a Lexus LS AWD for a true Torsen limited slip.  :P

If the OP does mean sub compact CUV's I'd suggest the Mazda CX3 for a mainstream example or the Audi Q3 if he's shopping in the premium brands.

So, don't want "underpowered?"  Want something on the smaller-ish side and don't need ground clearance?

The answer is always Golf R, STi, or Focus RS.  Unless it's Miata.

It may be oddly styled but it's hardly underpowered - Mercedes-Benz GLA AMG 45 360hp and 355lb/ft of torque

Did you see the Head to Head with the GLA and the Macan Turbo?  The GLA ran toe to toe with the Porsche and won hands down for being 100x more fun to drive.  And less $$ as a bonus.

Its strange because when I see the regular CLA/GLA I do this disapproving frown thing in my head.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

Isn't that what all car-based SUVs are?

Well justified. They also have terrible reliability.
