Back in 2004, I was hoping that they would release the mazda6speed as a hatch instead of a sedan.
The mazda6speed was originally a hatch.
I think a hatch would have sold better.

They needed to offer it as a sedan so they could have extra chassis bracing.

And then why was the hatch prefered form for the WRX then circa 2009?
I think they could have still done the hatch with less of the cross-bracing.

And by your own logic, why is the STi back at being a sedan.  Cross-bracing affects the handling dynamics greatly.

In fairness, the Impreza/WRX were designed to handle higher amounts of power from inception. The MazdaSpeed 6 came later in the 6's lifecycle.

isn't the speed 6 not even technically a 6, read somewhere it really is a JDM Altezza or something. Could be wrong
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

It's a 6. It's the only 6 sold here that was built in Japan though (until the current one).

What I am trying to get at is...
An AWD hatch Mazda6 would have out-sold a AWD Mazda6 sedan IMO.

The AWD Mazda6 hatch would be in its own niche.

Legacy GT Wagon? Impreza WRX Wagon? Cant see how it would have been a trailblazer...

Niche as unique.
Those two suburus listed are WAGONS not fastback hatches.

There is a reason whjy the mazda6 hatches were more popular than wagon version and the sedan version.
(At least in 2004 to 2008)

Yes, if the MS was offered between the 3 styles I would've preferred the hatch. Anyone recall if the MS6 have cross bracing at the back of the rear seats?

Yes, I believe the Mazdaspeed 6 lacks folding rear seats because of the bracing.

this is true, so a hatch might not work then?
