Is that $30k in Canada ?

for the popular CUV market.  Extremely doubtful...

This isn't a CUV.

And it was never $30k in Canada, AND it was $30k AFTER GOV'T INCENTIVES, but of course, before taxes ::)

No doubt this offering will be luverly, but it's certainly not worth all the hype it's getting.  Great battery range promise in an otherwise quirky car.  Volt is still amazing to me, this is less so.

I'll be impressed if it's under $40K with rebates in Canada.  Without likely closer to $50k CDN.

Still it's interesting.  The Volt might be the best plugged in hybrid but you still have a gas engine to haul around.

The Volt starts at $40,090 CAD and $33,995 USD with freight. If this is $30k USD after federal incentives ($7500) that puts it at ~$37,500 USD.  So yeah, low-mid $40s is probably a good guess for a starting price.

Puuuuhlease.  That was so 2001.  $30k is the new $40k in terms of EV MSRP after rebates...  :P

I find this appeals to me more than the Volt.  My use for this would be in the urban/sub-urban areas and would net me more than enough range.

Heck if the 320km is really true, I could get pretty far out of town on a single charge.

Expecting this to be $30K CDN after rebates is like expecting the Canucks (or the Leafs) to win the Stanley Cup.  Might happen... Someday.... Maybe.... dont hold your breath.

I'm guessing with options the dealers will insist on adding they will all have window stickers over $50K.

Eh, I dunno about that. For comparison's sake, a fully loaded Volt (including $1,145 paint but no accessories) is $47,280. So you will no doubt be able to cross $50k but I can't imagine dealers only stocking those models.

You're underestimating the cost of that big battery.  It will much larger and much much more expensive then the one in the Volt.

Some press material calls it a crossover.  Because hatch is so wrong to say.  I think it's worth all the hype.  Beats anything out there.  Tesla wishes they had something in this price range.  I would consider this (an all electric with great range) before the Volt.

To me it depends on whether it's an only car or not.  If I have something else to take on trips, I'd buy an EV in a second.

'up to 320km' is like Hyundai saying that the Elantra's fuel economy is 4.9L/100km...

Oh, you want your heater on?  Oh, it's winter?  Oh, you are driving in the city?  Yeah, sorry dude...it's only going to get you about 180-200km in those conditions.

True of all EVs, but I don't think the Bolt's longer range makes it worth the additional cost over the Leaf, etc.  It is valuable, yes, but then you also have to consider the entire car (including its plastics and other compromises).  This is still an economy car...what may be a $50,000 economy car by everyone's estimates here...

Pretty quick to come to all these magnificent conclusions when the car isn't even on the market.  GM was right on the money with the diesel fuel economy figures.  With the 1st gen Volt it was 40km to 80km, average was 60km.  In our winter's it would be in the 40's.  Still within the range that GM specified, not a lie.  So if the Bolt is 320km, average would probably be around 240km.  More than double the real life average of the Nissan Leaf.  No small feat.  It will make the Bolt the EV with the most range, even in winter conditions, after the Tesla.

Rookies eh!  Considering it's the from CES show in Vegas.  And the other press material..

"During the recent debut at the Consumer Electronics Show, Chevrolet only described the 2017 Bolt's cost as "affordable" without any further explanation. Now the company's promo site for the EV spilled the beans of the $37,500 price after destination. That means some buyers could get the five-door hatch for $30,000 after the $7,500 federal tax credit – at least as long as that lasts for the Bowtie brand. State incentives might also reduce the bill even more when the Bolt arrives in late 2016."

They're not conclusions, they are educated guesses.  Best you can do when automakers parade a car around to the shows and only release marketing numbers rather then technical information.  Once they allow real independent road tests we'll give you some conclusions.

Same here.  I really like it compared to the Volt.  A bit more utilitarian too it seems.
