(always stuck with safer brands for reliability like Honda/Toyota)
I don't disagree with you...my Corolla has turned out to be the least reliable vehicle I've owned.

Drove a 2015 5MT Golf Comfortline in October. I loved it, and it felt like a more expensive vehicle. The 1.8T felt punchy.

My pick would be a Comfortline with convenience pkg, 5MT. Keep the stock wheels for winter, and get a nice set of 17's or 18's for summer. New flashier wheels work well with the conservative design (works for the GTI).

This is high on my list as well.  Hard to decide between a Trendline, or maybe base GTI 3-door... hmmm.  I do love those plaid cloth seats but is it worth 27,995?  The 1.8T is already underrated...

Reviewer notes that engine feels more like 200ft-lbs of torque.  Pretty sure it is 200ft-lbs of torque. If you look at USA VW site it shows golf is rated at 170hp/200ft-lbs.  Same with Audi A3 1.8T.  I have no idea why VW Canada has the 185ft-lb rating on it.   ???

I test drove the 1.8 TSI a few months ago. It's a nice car but VW has become too corporate for me, like almost everything else. I don't suppose the long-term test will go past the warranty period and include trips to the dealer for maintenance and repairs?

Heated seats with cloth, AWESOME!!! Why GM would not make heated seats standard in the VOLT electric car and force you to buy leather to get them beggers the mind.

Cloth heated seats are standard for the Volt since MY2014, available with the optional Comfort Package for cloth seating with MY2103 but was only available with Premium trim package (leather seat) for the MY2012 & previous USA MY2011.

I would have be tempted to give a try to the e-Golf but that is a forbidden fruit here in Canada.
I still miss the roof top of my 2½ decades ago TDI but I would never go back with ICE now I tasted EVs...

Begs an interesting question. When Toyota decided become #1 volume builder in the world, their quality dropped. Now Volkswagen is after the same goal....hmmmm

One car does not make a case for brand reliability, and until they start to perform better on JD Power and Consumer Reports. On the flipside, I think they did win a reliability award from a different survey company, but can't remember which one.

Here's the survey
