I'm a little surprised to read about these issues. Ford has been doing so much better in reliability lately. Too bad they've had this stumble. It's kind of ironic that the biggest trouble spot seems to have come from partnering with GM  ............

Put two of the D3 together and you get double the trouble!

So Ford recreated its after pre-bancrupcy image, built first generation Fusions as a reliable cars and is back on track to build traditional north american family sedans with so-so reliablility. Although I wasn't sure Ford is the main culprit for the reliability issues of previous gen Mazda 6, now it seems to me I'm right. overall, the six speed auto tranny is a main issue for their counterparts from GM as well.

It's too bad about the newer model being less reliable, makes you wonder about the upcoming model, who makes that transmission?  I also thought GM made pretty good transmissions, never had any issues on my Grand Prix, or G6. 

So would a manual transmission be fairly reliable? I also don't see the Black Book value usually posted in a used vehicle review.

The manual trans would probably be a good buy, but there are so few of them around that it's hard to judge just how robust they are.

I stopped including values in the review itself, because that information goes out of date within weeks of publication. Values are still there, though, in the chart at the bottom.

Nothing of which applies to the Sport model...phew (dream land is awesome...)...at least not the trans issue, or the heater core...

Maybe I should buy the extra warranty the service guy's trying to sell me...

Watch that driveshaft! :-P I seem to remember the first-gen AWD models having a problem with leaking driveaxle seals, but not sure if that carried over to the second-gen cars.

I am not sure if there is a bad link, but when I got view the comments, it takes me straight to the forum section.  Any idea if it is the same manual from the previous generation, the one paired with the 2.3L which I assume is in the Mazda3 and Mazda6?

I put 2700km on an early 2010 rental Fusion SEL V-6, and loved it.  As rentals go, this one was surprising: black on black leather (nice white stitching  ), moonroof, that V-6, the Sony 12-speaker stereo, 2-zone HVAC ... felt and drove like a budget A4.  From Calgary to Jasper to Vancouver and back, netted 8.5 l/100 km average, and not because of conservative driving 

The CEL came on one chilly morning, and went off later.  Might have been the new cap-less fuel filler door.

Our 2010 Sport Fusion (3.5L AWD) with 27,000 Km has been absolutely flawless. Not a single concern with either engine, transmission or driveshaft. And consider this car has all the bells and whistles available on any Fusion and there has been no electrical issue as well. Blind spot detector and cross alert traffic are amazing features that are very well executed in this car.

We could not be anymore satisfied with our Fusion.

I don't like relying on CR exclusively. Hence the inclusion of anecdotal stuff, and True Delta data. I find that gives a more rounded view of the car.

Agreed, I will take CR's word on reliability issues over any other organization. Not the perfect gauge but better than the others.
