Civic Type R

Turbocharged direct injection 2.0L. 307 hp @7000rpm, and 295 ft-lb at 2500 rpm.

It remains to be seen whether something with this engine comes to our shores.  I certainly hope so.

Nope.  FWD.  Focus RS, STi, Golf R, all AWD.  No 300hp FWD cars, thanks.

It would be so cool if we could get the euro hatch version let alone the type R.

I love this new Type R, but at the end of the day, I'd rather have the Focus RS. That kind of power to the front wheels just doesn't make sense.

Now, give us something with this engine and SH-AWD and we're talking.

You want the Type-R drive like an Acura TLX?

It doesn't have to drive like a TLX.  It's significantly smaller...and would be tuned to be racier.

SH-AWD would help put extra power down and reduce torque steer, but I am not convinced that this system, (however great on paper and in theory), along with Honda's technological innovation and thoughtful engineering, can be mated to all all-out performance road car, matching the competitions like Mitsubishi, Subaru, Audi/VW, Nissan, who all had decades in R&D and in Racing (like in WRC) to development and refine their AWD system.

I was less concerned with the car itself than with the engine that is in this thing.  We've never gotten the same Civic that they have in Euroland, but we HAVE often gotten the same engine.

That's probably the most likely - I love that the TL was available with a manual and SH-AWD. Tough to find one so equipped, though.

I'd prefer if this engine made it's way into the ILX. An AWD, turbocharged ILX would be a very interesting competitor to the Focus RS/STI/Golf R.

I feel like I would have to be in my early to mid-20s again (and be wearing a flat brim hat) to drive this thing.

Lighten up Francis.....

Sad but true. And part of why I opted for the MINI instead of the Civic Si.

There are two guys at work, one drives a late 90s Civic "Type R", the other a Yaris. Both are just ridiculous looking...

Some pretty interesting civic news, including what seems to be confirmation that the Type R is coming to NA. I also like the direction of the styling.

Looks pretty good.

"Among the engine choices in the Civic will be a new 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. It will also come with a CVT, or continuously variable transmission."

I have to assume Honda would still offer a 6 speed manual transmission in the sportier Civic iterations??  That was really the pain selling feature of the old Civic Si: revving the engine into the turbo range.
