I had the opportunity to drive the new 340i with the Stage 2 M Performance Pack (intake + exhaust upgrades) last Friday and I'm still dreaming about it.

Would I buy it? Absolutely not since those new blown BMW engines give me the willies but as a lower-mileage lease?  Absolutely!  Its the most surprisingly fast car I've driven in the last few years.

heh..... have to at least attempt to flog my own even if i don't think it's the right choice...

i've got a brand new 2016 200s AWD... for 33500.... as much as i hate what fca has done lately with this car, it's still a nice one.

big depreciation though, non-luxury marque... meh. just throwing out there that you can get new in your budget.

yeah... it will still be around for 2017 as well, but then it's done. thanks sergio... really makes selling them easy. and too bad because they are a nice car.

that was what i meant with the "as much as i hate what fca has done lately with this car" talk...

IMO just keep the 330.

What are you really getting by going into an IS or TL or G37? They're all mainstream sport sedans that drive well and sound good and go decently quick. Yes the newer Japanese car is likely more reliable, but you're putting in $10k more money today to achieve that, plus you don't know the provenance of whatever used car vs a known quantity in the 330.

You're getting a bit more tech by switching...but honestly those 3 are all very last-gen tech anyways at this point. Nothing that can't be matched by a Garmin and an iPod interface.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

I dunno, perhaps the infotainment is a bit last-gen but there are other technical items on the BMWs that are pretty high-tech by even today's standards.

The Dynamic Cruise Control for instance, can apply the brakes. The Parked Car Ventilation. The brake drying/fade compensation. The 5-link rear suspension. The adjustable seat width with the Sportseats. And if you install the phone dock like I did, the ability to use the external antenna with your mobile. Few Japanese and American cars even today have those features, and I'd miss them if I switched.

Gee guys, between a BMW or a Tesla how could I possibly choose? Perfection vs perfection....such a close match.

Oh...well then again because I use a 1980s brick phone that's a bit flaky I should get the BMW so I can make use of the external antenna.

The universal snap-in uses inductive coupling with the external antenna; the micro-USB also charges faster than any other charger I own. Perhaps not of great add'l benefit for most of you guys in flat areas, but mobile reception is terrible where I live and it makes the difference between no reception and 1-2 bars. Picked it up last year in Germany, plus it's a great way for me to avoid the temptation of reading/sending SMS.

I moved into modern last year when I bought my first Android Smartphone  ;D so quit laughing at me while I fish out my CDs from the door bin.

I've been talking to him lately and his thoughts are:

Q50: Doesn't like the looks and has a bad Consumer Reports rating?  ???
IS350: Still interested but theres not many on the used market...
200: I didn't even mention it to him. Sorry tooscoops.  :P

He test drove a 2016 328i xdrive just to get a feel. He described it as "slow, handling isn't as sharp as my 330 or your 128...its not much better than a 320".

He now wants to look at 335's.....  :o :-\

Regarding the tech: He doesn't care that much about tech, hes just concerned about the age of his car, and he got a really good offer for it at $12k.

Now he is checking out the 2013 GS350:

Ok - that GS is at least materially different from the 330. But I kind of doubt it would drive as nicely. I'm sure RR will be along shortly to tell me how Lexus is great and all that. Wonderful, now I have to decide between a perfecta trifecta of Tesla, BMW, and Lexus. Ahh :censor: it.

It would drive nicer than a 10 year old BMW...most definitely.  In standard guise, it might not handle as nice.  You'd need the F-Sport for that.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

I don't know... Would the F sport package make a 4000lb luxury sedan handle that much better?

Yes. Try and find the GS F-Sport RWD, which has the snappy tranny
I love it when a plan comes together.

Ask Jaeger. He's recently tested both.

But yes..makes a big difference.
