I thought I'd read somewhere that the XC90 was being updated for 2014. Strange that there was no mention of that here. Is Volvo giving up on this segment?

edit

just did some research.....These are mid cycle updates. The XC90 is supposedly coming mid 2014 as a compleately new model.

How much did Volvo pay for this ad? Things are dire at Volvo and I wonder how long it will survive.

I would guess it depends how much patience (and money) it's Chinese owners have.

I agree with many that the new Volvo's are getting much better looking but after reading all this fluff on new this and new that I note a major omission.

Where is an innovative drive-train. No mention of anything revolutionary as in diesel or hybrid.

For a company like Volvo to survive and make in roads they simply can not follow as they will fail.

Volvo has to garner new buyers and to do so they must be shown to be leading not trailing with just pretty cars with no foundation.

Looks like these changes are a midcycle refresh for these models.  The XC90 is supposed to be an all new platform with new drivetrains etc in 2014 with next gen of these models to follow after that on the new platform.

Not sure I'm a fan of the auto sensing permanent high beam feature. These things are bound to fail at some point, and driving with a high beam in oncoming drivers' eyes is not something worth contemplating. Volvo should leave certain things to total human control.

Otherwise, the rest looks good.

I agree.  The owner should be able to turn it off.  Maybe the function is already there.

When I saw the title I hoped that they were going to produce a simple  RWD 4/5 seater with a big trunk, a simple 2.5 litre 4 cylinder engine, comfy seats. Well rustproofed, good crash performance, a real spare wheel, headlight washers and with the minimum required electronics.
I.e a Volvo

 Oh well.

Ahh the good old days when Volvo was an innovator......and yes, I still like the 200 and 700 series.

First, I agree - auto high beam features on any car scares me

Second, I agree - all cars should leave the driving to humans...I like driving, I like controlling my vehicle.  Bring it on, Skynet!

Third - electrically heated windscreen (a la Jaguar) = awesome.  I wish that'd trickle into Subarus.

nothing revolutionary in the drivetrain.. but there is a plug in hybrid on the v60... too bad its not ready for its NA launch yet.

also, a few of the other things like the touch screen that works without taking off your gloves... thats nice.. the internet function on its screen is nice too...

overall, doesn't look like all that much real new stuff... seems like the original sensus system was a failure and if they had to re-lauch that, they might as well change a few other items.
