Porsche really does get you on the options.  I guarantee they make most of their profit on these option packages.

Of course, but the same is true of every manufacturer. The margin on those $600 heated rear seats must be insane.

I had absolutely no idea that you can get one with a 6-speed stick.  Granted, it's only available on the base model, but still... kudos!

So $75K for a 300hp base model V6 Cayenne which, IMO of course, is by far one of the most plain jane looking SUVs out there....uhhhhhh....NO. $75K for a fire breathing 475 hp Grand Cherokee SRT-8....yes please!!!
Lighten up Francis.....

Except you can get a Cayenne in 6 speed manual. Actually with the previous gen you could also get the GT I think with the V8 and 6 speed manual and I actually did see one for sale. Only $70k two years old at the time. I'd get one if I found one and had the money.

That was the GTS model. Very rare to see one with a manual transmission but they are out there.

I drove a last-gen GTS with the manual transmission. It really didn't suit the car and the transmission felt quite truck-like, heavy and imprecise. Not sure if the same is true for the manual on the current generation.

The Cayenne Diesel S would be fun. It has more than twice as much torque (627 lb/ft) as the V6 gas model. I don't think it's coming to the US or Canada though.

Porsche has made a great effort in engineering handling and overall performance into the Cayenne. I watched a documentary 5 years ago on the design of the Cayenne from concept to production. The original concept came from VW as they were developing the Touareg. Its not just an SUV with a big motor bolted in and a performance badge affixed to it.

VW has moved Touareg production to the Slovak Republic and Porsche decided to stay in Germany and build a new plant in Leipzig. The second generation is all Porsche.

Ergonomics a bit iffy for me:

After 6 months of ownership, I still confuse the turn signal and cruise control stalks; the driver behind me must be cursing because I signal left, then right, then continue straight ahead anyway.

The start and light knobs (both rotary) are too close, so that sometimes when trying to turn the start knob to the right, I'm working the light switch instead.

Otherwise I love my diesel!
