The Audi RS5 is "a spectacular piece of automotive decadence," say Jonathan Yarkony.

not a lotto pick for me, but I agree with you on the RS4 Avant—the Avant would be a lotto pick and it would be my daily driver. Audi wagons are pretty much the perfect vehicle in my books. Even an S4 Avant would do the trick for me...

While a beautiful car, its never really done anything for me. Im with the other guys, an RS4/6 would be way more of a dream car for me.
Lighten up Francis.....

What a great car. If I go looking for a coupe to replace the Berlin taxi, I would start here (over the C63 or M3). Hate that colour though...wrong for the concept. I don't understand how the author considers the S5 a sports car...perhaps I'm the one that doesn't get it but at 4,000lbs+ the S5 strikes me an appropriately powered GT coupe...fairly big, heavy, smooth, luxurious 2-door car without compromising comfort, luxury and style.

Just wondering, have you heard a C63 at WOT or taken an M3 for a spirited drive??

I have to give it up to Audi stylists lately. They've become the style market leaders to aspire to, even surpassing MB, BMW has lost it's way here. I agree, not my colour either but that individual.
It's like they borrowed some guys from Hugo Boss and said "now design a car to go with that suit"  ;)

Was just sitting in a 2013 C63 (it was off and silent) and it struck me as nice but a little mmm...discount-ish among it's peers.

Yes on the M3 (but not the current model and my spirited is probably your slow) I have no complaint about the car other than it's a homely cousin to the S5.

Who knows what I'd prefer if I drove all 3 back to back (sounds like a good idea) but I'd start with the S5 and it wouldn't have to be the fastest to get the nod from me.

If any one of us "average joes" ever gets serious about buying one of these beauties, check out AutoTrader. There are a bunch of used A5's between $35-45k.  ;)

Apparently there is a back seat, although I didn’t really notice when I was driving it. Will anyone care?

Well, I do. I would love an RS5, but I could never buy it because it can only really seat two people (prove me wrong). For this reason alone, the E92 M3 wins it for me every time.

Which about reflects their true "value". They are worth every penny as new "show off" or "status" symbols. Once that part wears off, it is worth the price of its parts. But an "average joe" still won't be able to afford one simply due to ridiculous upkeep costs. I can afford a $40k car, just not a used higher-end Audi (or any FGC for that matter).

Audi parts are damn expensive; I'd wager you could get more selling off the individual parts than the value of the car itself!

No doubt. The upkeep is still a killer. If you can't buy it new, you can't buy used either. New you get raped on the purchase price, used on maintenance and repairs.

Nice driver's car, though not for me.

I took an older M3 for a real rip, the SMG was kinda annoying but the drive was actually beyond surreal, Ive never driven a car that, besides a Miata, that better connects you to the road. While I havent driven a C63, the exhaust note of any AMG Merc ive heard in the last few years is more addicting than a bath salts/meth combo, kind of a machine gun mounted on a locomotive driving through a tornado kinda sound.

I was about to say the same thing.  Beautiful car!  I'm just not ready to give up my clutch pedal yet though...

There is a HUGE difference between the A5 and RS5.  If you can't tell, then this car is NOT for you.

Really,  I'm sure the 2.0T still goes pretty good and if you took the badges off, most people couldn't tell the difference,
