What car did you like before but don't anymore?
« on: January 29, 2015, 10:15:30 am »
I was thinking the other day that as time goes by, certain cars lose their appeal.

when they first come out, you are thinking 'Wow, that's FANTASTIC and I would soooo want one someday'

then some time later..  probably a year or so, you don't ever think about that car anymore.
i'm not saying you now actively dislike something.  just that the car fades into the background and you don't want it nomore.

for me, i have many, but here's one.

what about you?

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

When it was new I loved the run out 4th gen Camaros. Not my thing now - I'm glad I never saved my pennies for one. I guess as a young lad (like 10) I cared about super cars like most but they are of no relevance to me now.

Can I pick a whole brand?

I dreamed of owning a BMW for ages. Then the brand slowly lost its lustre for me even though there are a few specific models that I'd still love to own.

As runner up I'd pick the bottom half of Mercedes' lineup except I didn't like them in the first place.  :)

 :iagree: with respect to BMW.

:iagree: With respect to BMW as well.....they used to be my second favorite manufacturer behind Porsche. Now, in their entire lineup the only car that really does anything for me is the M4.
Lighten up Francis.....

I liked the 6 cylinder 128i, but I'm not sure about the current 228i with the turbo engine. Beyond that, meh.  :(

I have owned 2 WRX's and an STi. As much as I liked them over those 10 years and how good the new one is I just don't like them anymore

Thats the thing, beyond the 4 door M4.....their whole lineup is very lackluster to me. Even the M3, I would much rather have the C63 as a coupe.

I used to LOVE Nissan Z cars. The 350Z/G35 was my dream car through high school, and I looked forward to the day I could afford to buy one. Somewhere along the line I totally lost interest, though, and when my mom gave me first right of refusal on her babied G35 coupe I passed.

Today the 350Z looks like a bloated mess. The 370Z is a good looking car, but it doesn't do much for me.

You're mixing up your Ms. M3 = sedan, M4 = coupe.  :)

And that's another thing. Their naming convention just sucks. You can get an M4 Gran Coupe, which is a 4 door.

Hmm. Mercedes' entire lineup just leaves me cold. I don't think there's a single thing they offer that interests me.

BMW on the other hand, I think their cars are almost all best-in-class. Except the X6. The less said about that monstrosity the better. Audi comes a close second in a lot of categories, and probably wins in executive sedans. But Mercedes just bores me.

Couldn't think of a car that qualified until I read your post. I feel the same way about both the 350Z and the G35. I remember a few years back, probably in 2009 or so, watching prices of six-speed G35 sedans dropping, thinking I would buy one soon. But for whatever reason I lost interest in them. Same with the 350Z. I used to like them but I now think they are just big and bloated. Would still love to own an RX-8 but the Z does nothing for me.

The interiors on Audis are an absolute wonder......they have a style and quality that is second to none. MB, I don't know what it is about them, but C class and above, there is something about them, I don't know how to explain it, but to me, they look awesome.

I loved my SAAB 900 Turbo.  But then they suddenly got too expensive and then became GM cars.
I loved my '87 GTI twincam and my '08 GTI   still do love Golf GTI

Loved my 2003 E46 BMW but have found no interest in any 3-er since

I hate to say this......but my current car, the Mazda 3 BM. It's not a bad car at all, but it fails to make me love driving. It ticks all the boxes on paper: it's low-cost to run, eco-friendly, the interior is nice, the build quality is solid, and it has the latest safety and convenience features.

It's a bit underbaked in a few details though. I didn't think it would grate on me so much, but the road noise is loud regardless of what tires are mounted. The lack of rear visibility irritates me all the time. The big engine has some NVH rough edges. The suspension's too soft and allows too much fore/aft motions. The bi-xenon headlamps are too dim on full beam. And other things like no express up/down windows (aside from the driver) and unlit controls add up. But worst is that well, I just don't enjoy driving it.....it never makes me smile or laugh in the way my old, if occasionally flawed BMW X3 did.

I really liked the old Nissan Pathfinder (we had two of them). Haven't liked the current or previous ones though.

I loved (and still love) BMWs from the '60s, '70s, and '80s, but have liked the brand less and less since the '90s...

Another vote for the BMW. I used to really, really want an E92 335. Now I could not care less. Same goes for most of their lineup.

I still like some of the older stuff though.
