Comments like this on car sites just make me shake my head.

And how did you get that it sucks in the snow from the article?

I know i will never (unless lottomax finally comes through) be able to afford a car like this, but it's nice to dream. To quote Ferris Bueller - "if you have the means i highly recommend getting one"  :)

I saw a beautiful silver last gen 911 earlier this week in Ottawa coming down Scott St. & turning onto Island Park... it had a roof rack and a big Thule ski box on top and I thought to myself, this person is getting full value out of their car & not scared to use it in all seasons.  This is a perfectly suitable winter vehicle with the all wheel drive and with the capable winter tires we have now.

If EVER I could afford one, mine would be a 4S and you'd see me at the ski hills with it in the winter  ;D

Wing... I think it's awesome that he or she (didn't get a close look inside, lol) is using the car as it's meant to be used... in Germany they don't usually put them away for the winter, they drive them!!  My good friend drives his 88 - 944Turbo all winter in Toronto with a good set of snows... and yes I know they don't get as much snow as we do here in Ottawa, but it's still a testamony that Porsche's do not have to be put away for the winter   ;)

Most of the people who can afford this car most likely use it as a fair weather summer vehicle and have something like a Range Rover for the winter.

If I owned something like this it would not see winter.

what the point of having 4S then?  if i had 4S, i would drive it all year, including winter.
if i had regular carrera S, i would STILL drive it all winter, with the exception of truly horrible days.
(like -30 or snowstorm days)

I won't drive my TTRS in Southern Ontario brine shushed roads. I only take it out when the roads are bare, dry, and the salt dust is gone. If I had a $140k to spend on a 4S there is no way I would drive it in the winter and I would have a winter beater. My current one is my Mom's Rav4  ;D

AWD/4WD isn't just for driving in the snow - it can help stability, acceleration, etc.  I, for one, love this car, and more so, I love to ski...shame Blue Mountain is the largest ski hill in reasonable driving distance of Toronto...hey, wait, if I had this car and a Thule box on top, I'd drive it to Vermont every weekend :D

God, if you're there, can you throw me a winning lottery ticket, a HUGE Christmas bonus, or some other means of giving me stupid sums of money?  Thanks!

Wing, any idea what is the smallest rim size you can fit on the new 911?  Just thinking for winter, might be nicer to have a higher-profile 17 or 18" tires instead of 19s or 20s (I can't believe I referred to 18" tires on a CAR as "high profile"... :o)  Of course, 911 4S owners probably don't have such plebian concerns as minus-sizing the winter rims on their car!!

And of course, you'd best tell us tomorrow if the curling broom will fit!  (at least in the back seat it should...)
Maybe you should take a "test drive" down to Kingston for the Scotties!

I've seen a good number of 911's being driven in Winter too. Unless I planned on keeping it 20 years, if I had one and the snow wasn't too deep I'd drive it too.

James, that's an awesome ride. Love the new 911 in yellow!

Interesting comments. I would absolutely drive my 911 4S in winter...it's the only reason that I would buy an AWD 911...to make it 12-month daily driver. I must be missing a car-guy gene because I don't have the usual reluctance to drive my cars in all conditions. I like clean unscathed cars as much as the next guy but WTF...I'm driving it.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

I have personally tested ski racks on the roof of mine to over 100mph.
Late March trip to Tremblant, good times.

If I had the cash, hell yeah, this would be an all year round car....but really, Id rather go for a C2S and have something that I didnt care about for the gravel, salt and potential accidents of winter.
Lighten up Francis.....

The rear seats are cramped, the trunk is too small, it uses premium fuel and I hate the colour. Where are the keys?
