I don't understand why Audi decided to use the 200 hp/207 lb-ft version of the 2.0T for this car.  Also, does this really get the same fuel economy as the bigger and more powerful (2.0T) Q5?

I panicked for a moment and thought I might have typed the wrong "Q" into the EPA website so just double-checked. It really is rated the same.

Over a year of use my 2.0T Q5 ( 220 bhp 258 lbs ft) has averaged  10.4 l/100 with summer readings closer to 9.5 and winter at 11.  These reading computed from the pump, the onboard computer is a bit more optimistic  at an average of 10.2.

The Q5 weighs 1995 kg and probably has a higher Cd as a car designed several years earlier.

great review but I have one bone to pick!

The Encore is anything but cute.. :P
that thing looks funny being so short and tall.

the Q3 seems to have a much nicer cut.

really?

I find Q3's proportion to be the most pleasant looking out of all these micro CUVs in the market at the moment.  Q3 does have a little awkward looking rear lights though..

Q3 is okay, but still sort of top heavy and small looking, to me anyway.

I prefer this to the Encore or GLA, but that price :(

Again, fuel economy in the winter :censor: sucks...in the Corolla, pure city, at best I'm at 9.3L/100km, but more typically around 10.2L/100km.  I'd gladly take the Q3's fuel economy if I got the power and AWD with it.  11L/100km of Jacob's dark matter foot is plenty adequate to me.

I am at the stage in my life that I can afford much more expensive machines but this (THIS!) is $48K.  $48K!

I would rather buy a Subaru Forester XT with 265 hp and a better AWD system and save $10K.  Granted, it looks like ass but it hauls it better.

Subaru should use that in their advertising.

Cue pricing complaints...

It starts at $35, which is reasonable. Nearly $50k as tested, though... that's a lot for a sub-compact anything.

The MINI Countryman starts at $29,9 and beats the Q3 in the "cute" department. And it's available with a manual transmission.

Why use a torque converter automatic? They could have just paired it with the 7-speed DSG. And while I'm the subject, where's the automatic start-stop system?

Cute it may be, but the Q3 is not a good value compared to the Q5. The thing is, it doesn't cost that much less to manufacture slightly smaller parts.

my current tank in the Rio5 is at 7.5, and Kia/Hyundai products always get ripped for being thirsty...all city driving, and it's been quite cold this past week.

I find it's length looks too short for it's height, not to mention that it has a ridiculously high price to size ratio as tested.  But then, I just don't see the point of a sub compact anything, let alone a CUV.
