Noise coming from the back of my car - possible struts issue
« on: November 29, 2015, 07:48:56 pm »
If i were to press the back of the car up and down i would hear this squeeking noise. When i go on highway noise is minimal maybe because of high speed but when i drive in the city i can hear it a lot.
It also comes and goes and its almost like its temperature dependant. This start happening since we start having this cold weather.
When i took it to the dealership couple weeks ago it was warm weathet so they couldnt find anything. They checked the shock and suspensions and they said nothing wrong there.
The only thing that it "migjt" be is the struts need to be replaced.
I have pontiac Grand Prix. Would anyone be able to offer opinion or advice.

Some of those Grand Prixs had rear sway bars. If yours has one it sounds like the bushings for it are due for replacement - that's where I'd checked first.

Yes, but there were 3 different suspension packages in 2007, depending on which package your car had you may or may not have a rear sway bar. Assuming you do, the symptom sounds like bad sway bar bushings. If not, then I'd be looking at the rear control arm bushings.

My Pontiac is base model. I looked at couple sway bar problem videos and noise doesn't sound like what I am hearing.  Sound I hear is like 2 pieces of metal grinding against each other. It's almost like something/somewhere needs to be lubed up

Struts could be low/out of fluid. Had a similar sound on my Subaru when the shocks were toast.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

So I took the car to mechanic.  He said struts need to be replaced.  So he said to save myself some money he said I could go and buy second hand parts which I did.  So my mechanic replaced the struts.
He replaced them last week and noise was gone but today I heard it again.
Couple interesting things is that whole last week weather was pretty warm and today seems to be colder and noise is back. Seems that something is being affected by the temperature.   Also today I went to Canadian tire to do alignment and not sure if by vehicle being lifted noise is back.   I don't know if this make any sense by I know that this noise is gone then it is warm or when it is raining.
Anyone have anything to add to this?
