2015 Ford F150
« on: January 08, 2015, 08:11:39 pm »
And here are my thoughts on the 2015 Ford F150 XLT FX4+Sport:

The good
- V8 engine has loads of power to pull the truck. Torque is adequate.
- Quiet interior.
- Controls are now easy to use, Ford replaced all the touch screen buttons some people dislike with hard buttons.
- Exterior design looks upscale.
- Availability of colors.
- I really liked the ride, this specific truck had the FX4 package.
- Seats are comfortable
- Simple and easy to use interior. Really like the entertainment unit here.
- Leather seats feel really nice.
- Relatively quiet.
- Lots of space in front/back/trunk - honestly I don't know why anyone would need more space than it has.
- Refined ride, I'm actually amazed how well this thing drives/soaks up bumps and potholes.
- I like the exterior design, it's simple and looks refined.
- the 8cyl. engine has an interesting growl to it.
- Doors have a refined slump when they close.
- Transmission is smooth and shift gears promptly.

The bad
- Size - gosh this thing is bigger than I thought.
- Cheap plastics in several places, I personally think Ford should have made the interior more upscale.
- Fuel consumption - I was getting between 17L and 22L???
- Lack of leather in the XLT  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Summary
Overall the F150 is a nice truck, although I thought the size was a bit on the large side, I'd totally live with it. My Ford dealer wanted me to lease the truck for $625 all in for 48m...I thought it was a decent deal but this truck isn't for me - no leather, NAV, etc totally disappointed me.

5 cyl  ???  ;D

Nice review.

I had the prev gen F150 yesterday as a rental, and the size and fuel economy both scare me quite a bit. I am  a competent driver, but I just found it too big for parking spots in general. I suppose with time it'll become second nature, but it has made me think twice about some of the tight clearances I'd leave when parking around trucks before ( that would seem perfectly reasonable to any car driver)

They are amazing highway cruisers though, and it's very easy to go too fast

Sure, but GM shi* on theirs.   :stick:

That's a sexy looking truck.  Love it.

Size - gosh this thing is bigger than I thought.

Pansy! (didn't like the other P word)  :stick: ;D I drove one (shorty), it felt cute, and small and it turns on a dime, compared to mine anyway. Nimble even.
$625, taxes incl? Hmmm...seems not bad.  Did it have heated cloth at least?  That'd be my preference over leather.  Still not a fan of cow hide in my cars, wears like crap. And COLD! Brrr...
Agree on the engine, was surprised how spritely it felt compared to the last 5.0 I drove.

Fuel consumption - I was getting between 17L and 22L???
Welcome to my world... :P  If it weren't for that GM's are ugly, and I'd have to listen to AB laughing in my ear every time I drive it...I'd consider a GM 6.2, probably better on gas, at least according to those that drive them. They get avg of 12's! (sure they do  ::))
That front end looks like a Tonka truck, which for a toy is a good thing , but for a adult truck a bad thing  :rofl2:
How do you get 18l/100km does that include your towing mileage , I am up at 18 for this tank but that was after letting the truck idle for 20 mins then was driving into 60km winds

Wife takes it to work about 4km one way daily.

There's the answer.  My wife does about the same distance with the CR-V.  Temperature doesn't even rise on the gauge by the time she's at work.  I tell her to bike or walk but....

Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Yup heated seats with sport cloth. I might be spoiled be Ford choose a weird combo here, soft leather for the doors armrest, hard plastics all over it, more upscale appearance plastics in the dash, leather in the dash and cloth everywhere else. So inconsistent and make the overall theme feel utilitarian - I'd be okay with utilitarian if this truck was $35k...but at $50+ they better offer more luxuries.

I really like the low end center stack on my wifes F150 work truck. Its a welfare spec XL.....no touchscreen, no nav, but it has a rear locker, skidplates, trailering package and spray in liner....those to me are very important features.

I never understand why they put large screens in vehicles and try to make you pay extra for nav.  It's just a frickin' extra chip FFS, about $5 worth.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

i think they are a nice looking truck... all this new fancy stuff they have done with new engines and materials is really no big deal for most people i would think...

trucks, it comes down to what can it do and what does it cost... that lease isn't too bad... would take an 84 month payment for me to get a ram crew sport in that range which is my equivalent... dumb rams not having good leases!

They have been too big for years.  If owners wanted bigger 1/2 tons, then they maybe they should consider 3/4 ton pickups.  Like the difference between Chevy Equinox, and a Chevy Traverse... it's not like the Equinox is only a couple of inches difference.

Is it just me, or does the screen look small in the truck?  Looks smaller than the one in my car.  If you look at the real estate those buttons take, it's more than the screen.. On a truck I think 7" is a good size..
