2017 Mitsubishi Mirage
« on: November 24, 2015, 07:18:25 pm »
Hate to disappoint you guys but it's just a refresh, although disappointment would mean people gave a damn in the first place. Suspension supposedly tuned up for the North American market, same 1.2L engine though it sees a 4 HP bump to a whopping 78 HP. First Mitsubishi vehicle to support Apple Carplay/Android Auto. Slight reduction in coefficient of drag to 0.27. I think the only way they can compete with Micra is lower the base cash/finance price (not just cash only) to $9,999 or lower AND offer more features.

Looks more modern than the previous one.

We all knock the Mirage as a POS, but Mitsubishi has no issues selling them.

not sure how you come up with that assessment.  When the Micra came out they had to slap a $2500 discount on the hood to compete (and its still on), if they were doing that great it wouldn't have been necessary particular to that extent.

For 2014 Mirage sold 4,048 units, the Mircra didn't come out till April that year and sold 7,815 units.  For the first 10 months of 2015 the Mirage has sold 3,015 (so its doubtful it will meet its 2014 figure) and the Micra has sold 10,285.

From my point of view I would say its not doing all that great, at least here in Canada.  I think anyone who has bought a Mirage hasn't given some of the competition a check or drive.  I bet very few buy the stripper model (same for the Micra too) and it puts it in the range of the lower end of many good sub-compact vehicles for very little more.

It does outsell the Chev Spark, Scion iQ, Fiat 500 and Smart Fortwo for the 2015 however  ;D

That $2500 discount was cash only on the manual stripper model. Didn't help those financing who wanted better than base and/or an automatic transmission.

It certainly looks better. Will be interesting to see it in a set of poverty spec hubcaps though.
