It's a french word for "motorcyclist".  Relax.

In France, yes, with respect to law enforcement folks who ride motorcycles.  In Quebec, it means biker connected to organized crime, i.e. Hell's Angels, Outlaws and whatnot.  Very derogatory.  I grew up in the town that the Hell's Angels Quebec HQ chose as its bunker.

From Wikipedia France:  Le terme « motard » fait initialement référence aux forces de l'ordre à motocyclette (police, gendarmerie, douanes). Le terme est commun en France, mais péjoratif au Québec où il est synonyme de biker délinquant.

I forgot Quebec is another wacky planet altogether.

I will continue to use the term motard or supermoto when referring to this class of bike.

Supermoto, supermotard... whichever, but is the Duke really one of them?

KTM also made the 690SMC, which was clearly a supermotard, but I always thought of the Duke as just a good naked bike.

Certainly this iteration of the Duke is closer to a naked.  But my version was definitely still a supermoto.

I also consider motard-related bikes "hardcore" and harder to sell.

Just to derail the thread a bit - I hate that term.  Has always struck me as a combo word made up of Motorcycle and Retard.

Back on topic - rrocket, JUST BUY IT ALREADY.

So, so tempting.  Truly the best bike I've ever owned..and I've owned many.  Suspension is best out of the box suspension I've ever used.  Even better than some BIG money race suspensions I've used.  Monoblock Brembos among the best I've ever used.  Fuel injection was spot on.  Slipper clutch tuned to perfection allowing easy backing in.  This is perhaps the most underrated bike on the market today.

I still think Jeff should buy it.  Jeff?

It's seriously on my radar... just no time to get alllllll the way up to Ottawa.  Plus it's the wrong colour.   ;)

That's a very fair price for a great bike.

I'm planning on getting a bike, but the timing sucks for me.

Not to dissuade anyone, but RR owned a different version than this one. He had the cool "angry monster insect about to devour prey version", I believe this one is a bit "dumbed-down" but correct me if I'm wrong.; the front fork is not the same (not nearly as adjustable), I'm unsure about the front Brembo (still a 4-piston).

However, it's still a nice bike https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFlmITowB8Q

Yup... I know.  And there's the angry insect version for sale much closer to me for a fair bit cheaper, but it's also got a lot more kms on it.  As I understand it, "dumbed down" also means smoothed out in terms of the vibrations from that big single, and that's a definite plus to me.

I disagree that your version is dumbed down.  I see it as refined and improved in some areas.  Yes the shocks are less adjustable, but make no mistake...the White Power (WP) suspension is some of the best (bar none) components fitted to street bike.  And they are perfectly tuned right out of the box.  The tuning of the suspension is exceptional.  Bumpy to glass smooth...just perfect.  The Brembo is still radially mounted...but now with Bosch ABS.  I believe the wheels are still Marchesini...but a much nicer design.  And the ergonomics are much nicer, more relaxed while still allowing you to cane the daylights out of it.

No sir...your 690 isn't dumbed down in the least.

The bike was sold tonight to a guy that likes KTM's. Seems to be in good hands  :)  Mods go ahead and delete the thread.

Good job on the sale!

No need to delete the thread, IMO. Just modify the title with a "SOLD" if you want.
