Shame there isn't a WRX hatch anymore, of that'd be coming up in this thread in response to the $33k 'base' model :P

I'd still buy the WRX or STi sedans ahead of this 1000x.  MOAR POWAR and no FGC

WRX/STI and this are not exactly (or even approximately) similar in their missions. GLA45 or CLA45 maybe.

Its still a pretty neat option but its a bit nichey. You have to want a people mover but something smaller than a van...but also value luxury features / badge and AWD to get it over a Rondo or Golf Wagon or something. Thankfully for MB that 3 pointed star is worth like $3k on its own.

One comparison I'd like to see is this well loaded $42k model compared to an Odyssey EXL Navi.

Edit: M-B like most Euro brands has the terrible habit of having carpeted "walls" in the trunk that get clogged with dog hair

Fixed. :P

Dogs belong in pickup beds, not inside vehicles, unless caged. Fixed  ;).

What's that you were saying?  Couldn't hear you over the barking...

Yeah, and an open pickup bed is the last place a dog belongs.

Cargo area in the GTI is "carpeted," but it's more like a stiff felt and doesn't seem to hang onto dog hair.

Having said that, does anyone actually care about scratched plastic in the cargo area? ???

Before commenting too much, I'd suggest you guys actually sit in both this and the GLA.

*laughing condescendingly as I remove my reading glasses* Ahhhh, you must be new here - commenting too much without any real experience is why we're all here :P

I concur...I would never put our pup in the back of my truck, he belongs inside, in a controlled environment.

A bit Nietzsche?

I could see why that would be a drag on sales.  ;D

Right's just a hatchback that doesn't slope quickly rearward after the front cabin.  But everyone keeps telling me it's like a Mazda5 but the Mazda5 is so much larger I don't understand.  I think people are confused.

The correct term is compact MPV.

The B-Klasse competes with the Golf Plus and BMW 2er Active Tourer. It's not so small a niche, they're quite popular with families who take trips and such yet are thrifty and compact enough for fitting in at the market or in smaller parking spaces.

I'd love to say larger vehicles like the Ford Mondeo Turnier I have are perfect for a family but I've had to pass up quite a few parking spots because it's simply too big.

If you want the Mercedes Star on your grill, the powertrain of the B250, but need more room/practicality, you will soon be able to buy the Metris in Canada.

In Germany this class of vehicle makes sense. In Canada (or at least in AB) it doesn't, because there is plenty of space and the only time I had to pass up on parking spots was, if it was a parkade and the clearance was too low for my truck.

But all of Canada is not like AB...... ;)

Even where I normally live in the US, a small car comes in handy in the urban centres where I frequent, with narrower urban streets and "I think I'm far enough from the corner not to be ticketed" parking.

haha.  sorry i missed you at the last auto show noto.
There's always this year :)

From Day 3:
Quote
When you first start moving from a stop the transmission immediately shifts from first to second gear, you get this initial lunge forward then no acceleration unless you really stomp on the throttle. You can switch the car to sport mode to avoid this and the vehicle accelerates more like a car normally would, but then unless you manually shift or switch the programming back to economy mode the transmission holds some gears too long and won’t shift into fuel saving seventh gear until much later.
This is actually a MB 'thing'...and in 2010, when I helped my father pick a car (that ended up being the Corolla), we considered the IS250 AWD and the C250 4Matic.  While my parents loved the C250, they felt that there was just absolutely no power delivery due to the hesitant transmission shifting.  It would always need to think before downshifting, and my father thought it a safety concern.  Sport mode made it 'better', but then you're always using more gas and hanging on to revs longer.  It wasn't a solution to the daily irritation.

I have a pet peeve! Red indicators, especially red indicators that double as brake lights. I see the amber ones, even the bulbs look like they are there but Mercedes-Benz has the car programmed so the brake lights do the blinking in Canada... I wonder why.
