Nice toy (at that price I considered it being a toy) and seemed to be well engineered but my shop vac is working well for me :)

I like reading reviews on automotive accessories which complements well autos.ca

I have one that is several years old and find to be way over rated. It's really only good for its convenience. I thought it would be the bees knees (Sorry Sir O) but it ain't. I used it on the cars only once...the shop vac and central vac are worlds beyond. My advice...don't spend the money.

It is good for vacuuming up dry Cheerios.

I knew you had issues ab, but i didn't know you can't count:

http://www.autos.ca/car-test-drives/test-drive-2014-chevrolet-volt/

We can't have four pages on the Volt every day, unfortunately... this is the only time we'll ever cover this little vac, and I got carried away with my own comparison and Justin's findings, but hey, we like to be thorough.

The ShopVac is by far a more powerful, cheaper option, but some people want something portable. It's like comparing a Smart ED to a Yukon... If you don't already have a setup like Justin's, this thing is great - especially with the mini power brush to pick up pet hair, but holy crap, so expensive! at $100 i could see myself buying something like this, or $200 if i had pets that I needed to clean up after in cars (my kids aren't that bad), but $300 - ouch!

Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself,
(I am large, I contain multitudes.)

Which model do you have? I wish we could compare generations - i'd be curious to see how much more powerful this motor is compared to the V2 that is probably in yours.

Dyson vacuums don't tend to do well in CR testing. Cheaper Kenmores typically seem to be the better option.

Mum had a corded handheld Hoover with a power head that worked very well for the car, but you can't get them anymore.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Great Autos.ca comparison - as per usual  :rofl2:

JY, good job teaching your kids to work at a young age.  I was 24 before I ever touched a vacuum in my parents' place (my place, however, was always immaculate) :P

I've always figured that Dyson was, in fact, the proverbial 'sh!t', but the exorbitant cost of entry does little to attract my precious dollars (better wasted spent on golf).

I have a Shark Rocket with powerhead - I paid around $120 for it on sale - that converts to a handheld and performs better than any vacuum I've ever used.  Dyson is an overpriced prestige purchase, nothing more.

Agree 100%. I have a top of the line central vac with a direct connect in the garage. If you clean lots of cars, this is the best option IMO. I also have a cheapo 20 year old plug in model that is 200% better than any cordless.

We have a mid 70's vintage AP100 Electrolux canister vacuum that works amazingly well.  We've bought a few newer vacuums over the years (sometimes handy to have two) but nothing has come close to our 40 year old vacuum.  We've had to buy a couple hoses, and some other bits over the years, but it's been super-reliable and performs very, very well.

Dyson, overrated and overpriced.

I'm happy with my family's 25+ year old Kirby. (yes K's are $$$$ but it was my fathers.)
Would a Dyson last 20+ years?
That thing is to big and clumsy to be any use cleaning in the tight confines of a car.
Gimme a hose and rotary cleaning tool it'll out clean that plastic POS.

A friend showed me an old Kirby that came with the apt building he bought a few months ago.  It's at least 25 yrs old and still works great.  I'd never heard of them before.  It's built like a tank!  :o

I have a Dyson canister vacuum for the house.  Works very well after 3 years of weekly use.  Of course, I didn't pay full price or even close to full price.  If I was paying full retail, I would look elsewhere.

i have DC 35, which i reviewed on this site a while back.

I still like it very much.   not for car cleaning though....  it's too bulky to use inside a car.

but as general every other day sweep of non-carpeted surface, sure beats hauling out my 12lbs upright.

i got it from Dyson refurbished.  they have TONs of these hand helds on there so check it out occasionally, if you like the handhelds.

you might get something with some scratches (i did, but you might also luck out and get brand new one).  but they send you all new accessories, and fully warrantied for a year.

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D
