Try leasebusters, there are a bunch of relatively new cars posted under $300/month and it won't cost you anything up front.

Otherwise you're going to be hard pressed to find something new for under $300 with zero down.   Most ads you'll see for cheap new cars are either going to require up to $1500 out of pocket at signing or they won't have any base models in stock.

You're best bets for new are going to be a Cobalt/Pursuit/ION/Optra.  Cheap to run and insure and very low interest rates for leasing.  An 06 Elantra might work as well, the rates are under 1% as far as I remember.

Y2Chuck, I agree with you.  Leasebusters should show a few good deals there.  Maybe a Corolla or Protege or something.  Grab a good deal from someone else's misfortune.  :)

As for an '06 Elantra, cripes, you could probably BUY one for $300 a month right now with 0% fin over a zillion years.  Heck of a deal!

Yeah that $200 a month was like $8000 down though.

Infinity is pulling that same trick. 2006 G35 for 299.00/month lease!

Fine print: $9000 downpayment + 299 first monthly payment + 1564 freight and pdi, all due when you pick up the car.

http://www.infiniti.ca/en/general/special_offers/special_offer_dbd.html

Yeah, and don't forget, all of that is before tax!
So +14% on top of everything section!

City Golf/Jetta is do-able at 300/month tax-in.
A "fully loaded" City Jetta for $23000 is about $350/month "tax-in".

what's the residual on the City for 48 months?  I think the rates are 5.9% so with a 40% residual (guess-timated) that would be about $280+tx.  Not bad.  Of course that's a base with no options (about 15,600)

UPDATE:

Just got home from the Chevrolet dealership.

All the 2006 Cobalts are pretty much gone and the 2007 models are more than $300 with a 2.4% interest rate.

In the end they gave us a really good deal on a 2006 Optra 5 SL. Started with $287 a month and $900 due on delivery. (includes $400 for administration fees!!!!!!) Only .5% Interest too!!

Got him down to $250 a month and $500 due on delivery. The insurance is only $187 a month too which is really good considering i moved to Canada 3 months ago and so my driving record means :censor:.

All in all pretty happy. Has Air Conditioning and Automatic transmission included as extras.

Wow did you just buy a car based on price alone?  I'm sure it happens often, just not very much around here.

Congrats!

Residuals on the Citys are extremely high, for 4 years around 50%-51%.
The Rabbit dropped to 53% in Sept.

Nope, on the monthly payment alone!

We just need to get from A-B. So for us it was all about the monthly payments. Reviews i saw place the car on an average level so ok with me. My girlfriends mother drives an Aveo and has had it for 3 years with no problems (She also has a good insurance record so thats how i got my insurance at $189 a month fully comp.

If im honest...im going to give it to my girlfriend to drive in a year when she has learnt to drive and get myself something a little sexier.

Its a great deal for our current situation.

Wow, way to go, lee1001, that was fast. Remember, if it works for you in your present situation, then it's good. Don't let some on here belittle your move, it's YOUR move and your choice; and you made it.

Congrats. Any chance of a pix of that new ride of yours?  ;)

Well it was good timing. The 2006 models are selling fast or are already sold out as the dealerships are getting rid which means there are some desperate sales guys out there and some bargains to be had. Also with interest rates about to go up next week now is definately the time to make a deal.
