"Mercedes says Metris’ payload and cargo space will be 67 and 40 percent greater, respectively, than other mid-size commercial vans; reading between the lines, we figure they’re referencing the Dodge Grand Caravan-based Ram Cargo Van"

I don't know if that's a fair comparison considering the Dodge G.C. van was initially designed as a family hauler. If size is the determining factor Ford Transit, Ram Promaster and Nissan NV cargo have come to the party well equipped.

Looks like the wrong engine for this commercial van application.  I would have gone with the 2.1l 4 cyl. diesel instead of a "car" engine.

Agreed. The 2.1 4 cyl diesel would be perfect for this application.

I agree as well.  Would be nice if they built a passenger model for family use with the 3.0L V6 diesel and 4matic.

That would compete well with the upper trim Odyssey and Sienna.

The blue passenger model in the background looks good. It looks like a 20% bigger Ford Transit Wagon. (or standard roof model)

That would get expensive though - the passenger version already starts at $38k. And I'm guessing they don't want to overlap the Sprinter too much.

Though a Sprinter 4x4 passenger version starts at $57k...yikes.

I think it's good they went with a "car engine" - a very, very good "car engine". Unlike Nissan, that put an antiquated 131 hp 2.0 liter "non-car" engine into their NV200, thereby limiting the 3,260 lb. vehicle to VERY light duty use.

My B250 had that engine and transmission. Worked very well I thought. Good economy, didn't use any oil and I thought the transmission gear ratios were about right. A van with that engine might need a slightly shorter final drive ratio because of max loading.

If that can fit the new 4-matic system from the B under the van it should be a hit.

This van is longitudinal mount RWD platform and would likely have a different 4matic system than that of the B/CLA/GLA.

Out of the Transit Connect and the Metris, first one to put a diesel in the bay will win my heart.
