I replaced both my Rado and my Victorinox watches after the theft... Not the originals, but at least I'm made "whole".  The Vic is also now shinny and new - the old one was scratched to hell in the case.

That Nixon looks similar to the Diesel I got from the GF just a few days ago for my b-day  ;D

Congrats!

I really like the Rotolog, just not my style.  This is my second Nixon, I'll have to expand my horizons next time.  :)

i had given up on watches after having one year where my nixon, a bulova (or something... wedding party gift), a fossil and some other random all broke one way or another...

wife put an inexpensive penguin watch in my stocking and i've been enjoying having one back on... might have to start looking into a nice one again.

I stopped carrying a watch when I started carrying a cell phone.  so it's been a few years.

Same here. The last watch I had was a Timex that I used when I was going through basic training back in the 1990s. I'm not into jewellery, so the appeal is lost on me.

Actually, I did follow up after your post.  It's a good thing that somebody is trying; Detroit Watches has some interesting stuff (a fellow Montrealer too!).

The fact that pretty much every component used in the making of the watch comes from elsewhere is simply facing the current reality.  I can only assume that their already high prices for their watches would only skyrocket higher should they source North American components as a new standard, assuming further that they or somebody else would even try to make those components in the first place.

After posting my review of "The Martian," I realized I forgot to mention that a Hamilton watch makes a cameo appearance!  As soon as that scene started, my boyfriend (who has gotten a Khaki Pilot and Jazzmaster Slim from me over the past few years) yelled, "Hey!  That's a Hamilton watch!"

This article confirms it.  http://bestwatchbrandshq.com/matt-damon-watch-in-the-martian-movie/

Very cool!

I never really cared much for expensive watches, and still it's not so much a priority for me.

But when I was in Europe, I noted that there were a lot of nice watches that weren't as outrageously priced as they are in the US (the exchange rate helps too). Had my eyes on a Tissot T-race Quartz MotoGP watch......but ultimately the accountant in me dictated fiscal prudence was the way to go.
