Doesn't take much to run up the price apparently.
Since October 2015 the Junior PM has been in office.  Record mega-Billion deficits as he p*sses away our future.  An economy gutted. Stinky POTHEADS rejoice. We are going down the drain.

WTF!!!!

i ask my local dealers to be on the look out for a comfort line with convenience and beige interior and they are swearing up and down that those are super rare and i would have to build one for late september...

but all the reviews i see are with beige interior!  (and there's one in Edmonton!)

Welcome to German cars.
Just try to find another Japanese competitor with the same kind of engine for less money. Then we can compare.

Oh true.  No need to take offense.  But the Germans seem to really ding you for a la carte options.

I dunno, $1695 doesn't sound that unreasonable for that options package. Some companies would charge nearly that much for the pano roof alone.

I think $26 K is reasonable in comparison to others similarly equipped makes in the class.  In fact I priced up a Matrix a couple of years ago fully optioned, except for the 2.4 l engine, for nearly that much.  It had a very old naturally inspired 1.8 L engine and a small manual sun roof, a fixed rear axle, and standard air conditioning, not to mention one of the cheapest interiors I've ever seen or felt in a modern car.  A Mazda3 Sport, Golf's closest competition similarly equipped, will cost about the same.  The Golf is a relative bargain in comparison to most of it's competition.

I agree, I feel they are priced well.  Many do look behind the number, and see the features, equipment, and the engineering that goes into VW.  The Golf trendline (base model) with convenience package, has almost the same features as a Mazda3 Sport GS (mid trim).  The exact same price (within $50) when you add cruise to the Golf.  That's a tempting choice, and you get 22hp more.

I always thought that hatchbacks sold very well in Canada, the Passat has a starting price of $5000 more than the Golf.

A base Passat is probably a better "value" than a Golf but the comparison is a bit silly IMO.

Especially since the newer Passat doesn't feel as German....

$1000 for the stand alone panoramic roof in the new MINI. I'd pay the $1695, but sure don't need or want the other items in the package.

^ Yeah, but that happens with every car.  Want one option, get several you don't want... At least it's only $1695.

The Passat Comfortline  with a manual starts at $25,975.00 and comes standard with most of the goodies that are in this Golf 5-door +  Convenience Package....And I'm sure I'd be able to negotiate the price for the Passat down by 2-3k (edit: VW is offering $3250.00 OFF a Passat Comfortline with a manual, so that would bring the base price down to $22,725.00).
I ran into this problem when I traded in my Fiat 500...I wanted a Golf, but it was going to cost me 3k more than my discounted Jetta Highline - they both felt the same in terms of driving experience/materials so it was a no-brainer to get the bigger car.

Fog lights are not part of the package. Like I said, I'd pay it, but it has items that should be either standard or are not needed (as least from a personal viewpoint).
