Feeling the cold draft from the open door at the bottom of the stairs, thus giving me the urge to shout:  "Close that damn door!"

Realizing that most of coworkers regard "my" music as "classics" or worse "oldies".  Most weren't even alive when I was listening to rock/pop radio.   Some weren't alive when I switched to a mix of alternative, jazz and classical.

When my left knee (that took the brunt of a fall off a motorcycle) hurts. Happens when building Lego with the boy, sitting on the floor for extended periods of time etc. Sometimes weather conditions causes it too.

Seeing confused teenagers at a park and asking if they need directions... Duh! Whoever nowadays asks anyone other than Siri? Also being annoyed by style of jeans  :rofl2:

Feeling that lifting a 50 lb bag of softener salt and pouring it in is a strain.
Coming up the basement stairs one step at a time...dot and carry as my left knee has decided it is older than I am.
I'll have to collapse my RRSP NEXT YEAR not in the far future.

Friends of my age are starting to die off.
People who were icons of my youth are dead or dying.

Even at 54 I see this happening and gives me motivation to go out on a bike ride regardless of the 40 kph winds.

Normally, not much makes me feel old.  Sure, I don't run as fast/far as I once did, etc, but I'm still out breaking trail and leading the tough climbing pitches while the rest of the group works hard to keep up.

Then I go out with 25yr olds that train hard - and wow, the difference is noticeable.

The kid counting down the days until she moves to the mountains?  That's making me feel a little old - but more sad than anything.

50th birthday coming up this summer. I know it's just a number, but, my god, 50!

I guess you get used to it.

Watching Star Wars tonight and having to always adjust the volume because my hearing can't take the explosions.

Never found a comfortable level.  :-\

I turned 50 last fall and for me, it was a great milestone. Whenever I walk into a room, people think, "this guy knows his stuff." Of course, this is because of all the screwing up I did up to that point. The 20 year old me was not something I would want to be around for long.

Fifty doesn't have to be old, and I think anything that doesn't move or work dies. Pretty rare day I miss my workout in the gym. I run, climb mountains and scuba dive. Best of all is my (rather younger) Sweetheart can keep up to me. I still work part time to get me away from the house, mostly consulting jobs, as it is important to be useful.

We eat well, since keeping your health at my age is paramount. We are not food nazis, but we eat lots of veggies and rice and not a lot of meat. Not that we are veggietarians, it's just what we prefer, although a grain-fed, organic Canada Prime steak is a nice treat.

Knowing the world really isn't a dangerous place, and that the vast majority of humans are nice is a great benefit of being old, as is casting off the propaganda governments habitually spew.
I'd never join a group that would have me as a member.

Funny to find this thread. About to turn 36 and don't feel too old, but I did just write this about being the slightly older dude at a music festival.

Caution: salty language and long as hell :P
