2012 chevy cruze
« on: January 14, 2016, 08:59:06 am »
So I posted earlier about a 2012 ford focus, and the general understanding I am getting is that the tranny is bad on the automatics.

I would prefer automatic, so I've been looking into other cars.

One that I came across is the 2012 Chevy cruze. They seem to be going for less money and the reviews are generally positive.

What does everybody else think?
I want to go with a more loaded model, (gps, sat radio, etc)

Seems like I can get one for around 10-16 thousand.

How does everybody like them? How is the gas mileage?
How is the entertainment center?
How comfortable is it?
And last, if you've had any problems with it, what are they?
Do you think this car Is a good value.

Find a Cruze Forum and go test drive a few.

You can buy a much better car than that. Honda Civic ring any bells. Cruse is old car, It been in Euro-land for yonkers. It's not all that great.

10-16k can definitely get you a better car. 2013 Ford Fusion comes to mind right away....

Co worker was offered a loaded cruze diesel for 21 at the dealer brand new.   I'd look around more after I heard that

Seems like I could spend 10-11 k on a Cruze of that year with the options I want.

Civic seems to be more 15-16k.

The other thing I'm worried about is insurance prices, being 21 years old it isn't cheap.

From what people have told me the civic is more to insure.

Right now I pay 250\month for a 2001 ford escape

How new are you trying to buy - There some pretty good deals on used 9-10th gens Civics. What about the Corolla?

I think the oldest I would go is 2010. But I'd like to go slightly newer.

I know it sounds trivial, but one thing I really want is a good entertainment system, with sat radio and stuff

No that's not trivia these day. You can use a smart phone. Honda doesn't have the best sound system I owned 9th gen, They are plenty Civic's in your price range. I can find lots on Autotrader for 12 grand or less. Nice low millage. Very few with sat nav tho.

It's no secret Civics are more to insure, even older ones.  Also no secret, that they range 15-25% more than an equivalent domestic, or Korean make.  Mid size sedans, like the mentioned Fusion, are cheaper to insure.  I would "focus" on them.  Usually has more equipment, more power, safer, and only consumes slightly more fuel (if you stick with a 4 cylinder).

As for as infotainment, I would be too concerned with that.  If the car your looking meets your needs great, if not, spend $500 and get an aftermarket deck.  That's what I did with my Honda Odyssey.  Bought a deck online, removed the old one from a YouTube video, had the local radio store wire it for $30, and that's it.

I would look at 1st gen Fusions (around 09-12), 2nd gen Mazda6 (same years), Malibu (boring, but some great deals), can't comment much on Chryslers.  Maybe the Sonata, and Optima.

This looks pretty good:
