2016 Camaro Reveal
« on: May 16, 2015, 04:31:27 pm »
Awful quiet in here. Everybody must be at the Camaro reveal.

Cue Jaeger comments on crap interior, and generally negative comments from Rrocket. :)

Well I don't have time to post pics, but this thing makes the Mustang look cheap. I'm quite impressed by the looks both in and out.

Don't worry Ford....single, middle aged Secretary's will still line up to buy all the V6 Mustangs you can build.

(C&D) The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro engine lineup is very similar to the Mustang’s, as it features a turbocharged four-cylinder and naturally aspirated V-6 and V-8 options, but the blown four will serve as the base motor in the Chevy. The two smaller engines will be available in both LT and 2LT guise (they’re the only two trims with those engines), while the eight-cylinder is again SS-exclusive. In contrast, the V-6 Mustang is the bottom feeder and available with very little in the way of options.

Kudos to GM who continues to invest and support V6 engine offerings as opposed to Ford who is trying to kill the V6 in the Mustang. Much better strategy to go after overseas markets without alienating the home market + the V6 could be seen as an upgrade in some exports markets where V8s are not welcome.

I love the exterior design but reserve judgment until I can see in flesh the interior as GM still use a lot of cheap materials.

Funny how much GM went the opposite way of Ford with having only V6 available to test drive at the launch event on Belle Isle. I am more a Mustang  fan at heart but I have little doubt GM will take the crown back again (sales and performance). Unless GM Planners go coocoo for cocoa puffs when they determine pricing...

I'm going to keep singing my one-note song and wish that Chev would have based the retro design on the long-hood fast-back Gen 2 Camaro.

The pics show both the exterior and interior overwrought. I can see some falling for it but it ain't me.
Could be forgiven somewhat if the quality of materials is good, but that's a big IF and remains to be seen.

I agree, the second gens were by far the best looking Camaro, IMO of course.

Saying that, I do not mind the looks of the new Camaro at all, the interior and exterior look great......not as good as the Mustang, but much better.
Lighten up Francis.....

Looking forward to a comparo on Autos in 6-8 months... Hard to tell the quality of materials with pictures.    GM's interiors are very case by case I find.  Some are really good, others totally miss the mark.

Still to large , should the same size as the 1967

http://blog.caranddriver.com/the-chevrolet-camaro-hasnt-grown-as-much-since-1967-as-you-might-think/

0.3 IN longer than 1970, 0.3 IN wider, 3 inches taller than the '70 pictured above.

the new 2016 Camaro isn’t that much larger than the original, measuring just 3.7 inches longer, 2.2 inches wider, and 2.1 inches taller.

The 1970 tipped the scales at 3640 lbs.  The 2016? estimated to be 3700

Here here.  In this day and age of gaping mah's for grills (hello Lexus, I'm talkin' to you) it would have been neat to see them try to incorporate a split bumper theme.

I feel bad saying it... but I don't really like the 67 there... compared to the other cars of the late 60's, I feel like that would be the echo of the group! just looks wise of course....

the new one, while not a car I want, is appealing.. the people who want these are people who *could* afford an audi, bmw, or what-have-you, but want the in your face styling that this gives... not too shabby I suppose.

feel like i'm coming out of the closet in the football locker-room here.... that gen 2 does nothing for me...

heh.. yeah... hard to take my style opinions seriously!

but to me, muscle of that era is more chevelle, cuda, torino, challenger... the of course the pony cars of which I like as well... I find the camero fit into a kind of, "in-between" spot. just not for me.

it was probably great for it's time, as looking back, it looks like it's from the late 70's... so it must have looked futuristic! but to me, that was not the best looking era of cars.

again... ymmv... I am not a person to be taken as "the norm" for styling....
