Went for a country drive today and saw four cyclists out. They looked a little bit cold.

Since getting my bike last year I've barely used the granny ring on the front, so I decided to convert to a 1x10 or 1x11 setup this year. Unfortunately, converting to a full X01 or XX1 costs a small fortune. So I'm going another route: just ordered a One Up 40T + 16T expander kit. Should be able to achieve the performance I want for literally 1/10 the price of buying a real 1x setup and the associated components.

^^ How about X1? Don't know how much cheaper, but it's supposed to be cheaper than X01 or XX1.

My bike came with X1 and I'm loving it. I haven't ridden Sram since the first GripShift days (and hated it!), but the shift action on this is awesome.

Also happy to find that 30x42 is plenty low enough for me so far, but might have to go 28x42 back home in the Rockies. Or maybe I'll just have to get in better shape...  :-\

No kidding. Winds are 30kph with gusts of 48kph. I just got back. Didn't ride as far as you but I have hills here.  :P

Still much cheaper than going X1. I'll probably go X01 or XX1 later, but this strategy should be fine for my second season on this bike. I'll be under $200 all-in, including a new RaceFace front chainring.

My bike has a full SRAM X7 drivetrain. It's not as smooth as a Shimano, but I love the "rifle-bolt" feeling of the shifter when it engages.

Ended up buying this 2 bike hitch rack with platform. Easy to hook bikes on and off.

We then took the bikes over to Cyclepath in Oakville and had them replace the handlebar stem for a taller ones. We found that we were getting some neck pain with our current hybrid bike setup.
They are very accommodating and our go to bike place since our first encounter with them a few years ago. Some bike places can be pretentious.
They only charged us for the stem not the labour, so I left my Diamond back stem with them since I'd never use it again.

Manage to get in a 70 km ride with over 600m (2000 feet) of climbing today. All was going great until I started to work my way out of the valley and head north as the wind had increased since I left. The last 15 kms into that wind were exhausting.

Its not you...that wind has been nasty. I sprinted over the crest of a small hill to look down and see only 23 kph. Facking wind.

Thought this was interesting. Would love to see how some of our cities look.

First outing today after a looooong and inactive winter.  Fack, I feel so fat and slow and my ass hurts!  :'(  But man, the bike feel great - I just love that thing!  ;D

I ran long yesterday and noticed most of the trails I ride are now snow/ice free, so I might get the bike out in the next few days.  Such a great addition to training - it's easy to hammer off 20-40K with no impact on my running or elevation workout.
