Fiberglass Wax or Sealant?
« on: June 21, 2016, 11:36:29 pm »
Last week I washed and waxed my RV as I do every year.  It's a lot of effort, but giving it a layer of protection is peace of mind for me.

In the past I've used Collinite No.925 all applied by hand. This year I applied Meguiars No.50 with my Porter Cable and removed by hand. I have to say the Meguiars came off with a lot less effort than the Collinite. We'll see how long it lasts. The Collinite would still be beading the following year.

My question is, can I be using a sealant rather than a wax like I do for the vehicles, or do I need to stick with a Fiberglass specific product?

Looks good!  How long did it take?

I've used sealant...but never on an RV...so I'm afraid I'm little help.

But I have used "Amazing Roll-Off" to clean before..RV owners/boaters swear by this stuff.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Thanks!

With Dad's help, we spent about 4 hours washing and waxing. I washed and he rinsed right behind me. I applied the wax and he was wiping behind me once it hazed. I wasn't being all that particular, after all it is just an RV. However, this is my third trailer and the previous two have been sold with the Fiberglass looking like new.

Sure is a lovely looking trailer!

Interior looks like a luxury apartment I'm guessing?

Thanks again. I had posted about it in the "what you buy or DIY" thread last fall. We got a seasonal site this year so it's parked at the lake for the season, like a poor mans cabin, or cottage as they say in Ontario :).

That's nicer than most cottages in Ontario.   ;)

Beautiful trailer BC!  You'll find that the Megs that you applied won't be as durable at the Collinite.  Pros and cons to using both.  The Megs is far easier application wise, but Collinite is far more durable.  I use this sealant when I do RVs for a local dealership.  I apply it by machine and it's extremely easy to remove by hand.  Unfortunately, I can't speak for it's durability as once I do them the customer picks them up from the dealership and I never see them again.

Thanks Canuck, much appreciated!  Can I use any other sealant such as PB's EX-P?  Where do you buy the Platinum?

Absolutely, you can use any sealant of your choice.  Menzerna Power Sealant is still my go to.  As for the Platinum, I don't buy it myself as it's supplied by the RV dealership.
