And so will the regular wagon 4-motion.

That'll be awesome if it happens.  But I don't think his wife wants a manual, just not a fan of the DSG.

Curious why? Obviously I'm bias but I love mine and it's now 6 years old. I drove a 2015 A3 with DSG and it was even smoother than mine.

There's unknowns with his current wagon, like whether there will be a fix, what the fix entails, and what the future post-fix resale value will be.

If he's guaranteed a certain value for his current car - much more than the fair market value - then getting a new one might make sense.

You're right it's unclear.  The only way I would keep the car is if they grandfather them which will likely not happen. also I think in the US are forced to buyback 85% of them within a time limit.  If they don't they will be fined an extra $100 million for every 1% from the 85.  I'm pretty sure canada's settlement would be similar to the US

They have to buy back or fix 85%. But there's no fix yet.

They were probably hoping for a simpler solution that wouldn't compromise performance and/or fuel economy. I'm sure they can implement a fix but it's going to make the car worse.

My wife does not drive manual :'(  .....Believe me I tried.

If the comfortline comes with leather or leatherette it might be a good choice  depending on the price.

Comfortline has leatherette.

What would be the premium for the AWD...$2,500 ish?

That's what I'm guessing.

Wondering if the buy back will count as a trade in. Could have some good sales tax implications.

I've never seen the point of pleather, would rather have cloth than a sweaty bum.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

Just serves as an "upgrade" from cloth or as a way to make people spend more for real leather.

The Golf Highline has leather sports seats, basically the same as the GTI/R seats but without the contrasting stitching.

This might be my choice then.  Depending on price of course.

comfortline Silk blue with Shetland light interior and convenience package... What would be the premium for the AWD...$2,500 ish?

That silk blue on Shetland sounds really nice.

A friend of mine bought a new Trendline wagon last winter. Really nice car for $25k or so. That's probably the way I'd go, but hear you on the wipeable seats thing with kids. Not so sure I'd spend the extra $2,500 on AWD either.

Once we get offers from VW, we will get two years to decide between buy-back and fix. Trade-in value would be maintained at 09/2015 level. However, if they can't fix them, what's the point on waiting? Buy-back values are published on VW's American settlement website, in ranges, until more detailed numbers are made available on July 26th. Canucks will only know what happens on July 29th.

Read a good point in this thread - if buy-back is treated as trade-in, that'll be a huge difference in sales tax.

With your buy-back, 1000$ credit cards from VW plus the compensation money, I say go for a new Sportswagen!

I went to Mazda yesterday to Bs with the salesman. Looked at the Mazda 6 and cx5.  I really like the 6 interior. Very nice car But it would be more expensive than a Passat and less space in the back. Also went to Honda to see the accord and don't really like it.

There was not 6 available to test drive. The only 2 they had was in the showroom

Is the Passat cheaper due to incentives of owning a previous VW?

My 6 was cheaper than the Accord, due to the dealership giving me $1500 more than Honda for my trade in, and $1000 Mazda loyalty program.  Also the lease rate was 0.5% vs 1.9% at Honda.

What about an Accord V6 touring.  280hp and I think it still has a 6spd tranny(no cvt).  On highway it still can do in the 7L\100km.

sound like a good balance between power and economy.

anybody has experience with them?  how is reliability on V6\6spd auto?

how's the powwa?

Great reliability.  Decent room for a coupe.  Prefer the previous gen myself.
