To continue the story.   The 2015 documents arrived last night.   Down again to a total of $105 per month total including tax for both cars.  The Q5   was a bit cheaper than the B250 so for half of last year It was down to $112 from $119  and now down to $105.

I will call them and ask them.

WHY? You want to pay more.  :rofl2:

No I just want to know why.  The provincial Gov may have something to do with it.

Vans are usually pretty cheap to insure.  Which was why I was surprised when my 2015 Mazda6 GX was cheaper to insure than my 2010 Mazda5 GT (about $100)  Cost of vehicle about the same.  Basically, it was because the 2015 was a brand new vehicle... $150.50 for both vehicles.

I haven't checked that many vehicles, but I haven't found a vehicle that I have had to pay more than $100 a month... in Burlington, ON that is... And yes that includes the expensive to insure Civic.  One reason of many reasons I don't like getting compacts...

My renewal isn't due until October, but I'm anxious to see if the Ontario legislation is bringing down my premium any. I was with Aviva Elite for many years under the piloted monitored driving program called Autograph. Unfortunately, they decided to end it as they weren't willing to upgrade to wireless technology due to cost. Last year I switched from Aviva to Marsh's Private Client Services (Marsh Canada) as I was eligible for a group discount from them. I saved $600 over the Aviva cost.

Last year at this time I got my 2013 renewal   for the 2 cars, a 2008 GTI and a 2007 Fit.  Total of $127 a month.   Yesterday I got my 2014 renewal.  2 cars. 2013 M-B B250 and a 2013 Fit both with the 5 year depreciation protection. Everything else the same.    Only $119.50 a month total.  The depreciation protection is just over $5  of that per month so that means the premium has dropped by $13 or so.     Now I'd heard the provincial government bloviating about how they were going to cause auto premiums to drop by 15% but I'd heard nothing about it actually happening...more about how premiums would be rising.  So what is this?

Just got a quote from my broker to insure our son who just turned 16. $900/year for the Venza but we must sign a waiver that he will not drive the S2000 or TT-RS.

Thats an awesome deal.  I assume he is occassional on the Venza.  I remember trying to do that when I was younger.  But the insurance company said, 3 cars, 3 drivers.  I had to be main on one of the cars.  They didn't mention a waiver for the cars I wasn't going to drive...

...be very, VERY sure that he doesn't touch the S2000 or TT-RS, even in the event of an emergency.  Insurers are 100% absolute on their enforcement of excluded drivers.

I wonder if things have changed in the last few years.  My aunt is holding off buying a car, because that means her son would considered the primary on the Civic.  I will recommend for her to try different insure companies, maybe even a broker...And get that letter.

I use a broker, I have no time for dealing with insurance company call centers.

I was surprised when I put the insurance on the new Q50S last week, only came to $596 per year, or $49.66 per month.

$900 per year for an occasional driver?

Godamighty.

Yesterday, I added my daughter as an occasional driver on my Explorer.  $220/year.
My diesel car self-identifies as an electric vehicle.

We live in the GTA, population is 6M and driving is more challenging.

Come to Alberta.  As soon as the kid gets her license, we have no choice but to add her to our policy.  All drivers in the house must be insured.  And the cost?  $1800/yr.  I was chocked until I talked to my friends and found out that's cheap compared to what they pay.

Wow...I thought $900/yr was reasonable.

True, but you all think you're special, so it balances out.
