That's not a hatchback.  It's a liftback.

But that double rear spoiler setup adds at LEAST 50HP, right?  RIGHT?!

No, because there's no stickers on the fender.

Three things I don't like about this new Honda Hatchback.  I don't like the shape of the rear end as it loses some of the space a traditional hatchback offers.  I don't like that if you go with the higher trim model with the nice center exhaust you need to use premium fuel (I'd be okay with this if there was a bigger difference in power).  I don't like that it's signicantly heavier than the sedan.

Premium fuel I could see if the power went up into the 190/200 hp range, but 6 hp.....not worth it.

I agree this is more of a liftback (looks like the Accord Liftback - so why was that called a liftback and this a hatchback when the profiles are  very similar?).

The side profile looks very similar to the Mazda 3 Sport, who also followed the same process by basically sticking a hatch door on a sedan without much variation.

Agreed on all counts.  I don't think any one of them by itself is a deal-breaker, but cumulatively, not making me want to run out and buy one.  The powertrain does sound pretty nice, though.  How about dropping the 1.5T and 6MT in a Fit Type R??  ;D

And those 18" rims are hideous.  I'd want the sport trim over the LX, but unless the 16" wheel design is equally awful, I'd prefer the 215/55 R16 tires over 235/40 R18s.  And I'm not liking this trend of jumping 2" in wheel size between the base and "sport" trims.  Mazda does it as well with the 3 (16s to 18s) and 6 (17s to 19s).  If you really want the extra contact patch in the sport model, what's wrong with a nice 235/45 R17?

Meh. I personally like the fact that I can't think of anything i'd need to justify more than the 6-speed LX trim level and that the Hondata ECU tune is $441 and a short drive to Calgary away. :)

Figured I'd look up this Hondata thingy you mentioned and didn't see anything for the 2016 Civics.  Where you getting this $441 amount listed and how much power will this unlock with the 1.5T?

The dollar amount came from the RCTS webstore out of Calgary.
The Hondata specific page has been pulled (The ECU is likely getting retuned to accommodate for the MY2017 manual options; the original was CVT-only) but the gains are ~+25hp/lb-ft over stock.
There's a dyno video still up on Hondata's YouTube page that shows the details. For whatever reason, I can't link to anything here.

Hmmm, that's interesting.  Not a bad amount to pay for 25hp/lb-ft.  Too bad they'll never throw this engine in the Fit to make a Si model.  That would get my attention a lot more than a hatchback Civic.

Which is a shame given the engine and tranny mounts are apparently nearly identical between the 1.5L Turbo/non-turbo motors.

Wasn't it Car & Driver that described the Civic rear end as a robot with a full diaper?
