You've seen these around at local malls, right?  do you obey or ignore?

Of course i obey.  I am obligated to follow what the property owner set out as the rules of parking on their property
2 (14.3%)
I reluctantly obey, even though it's imperious of them to impose such rules.
3 (21.4%)
never seen such signs.
4 (28.6%)
Nope.  I park my 6 ton, smoke belching, lifted trucks there on purpose.
2 (14.3%)
no, if it's not legally enforceable(like "Handicap" parking spots), i pay no attention.

neither of my cars are particularly efficient, even in their class of vehicles, but they are not too bad either.

but yesterday, i went to local strip mall for a burger with brother, and they have these
"fuel efficient vehicles ONLY" parking spots right in front of the burger joint we were going to.

I was momentarily tempted in my VW..  'well, it does get around 8L/100km, that's 20% more efficient than my M3...'

but there were plenty of parking spots around, so i just parked elsewhere.

we went in to the restaurant, and this gigantic Infiniti Qx56 or whatever, the biggest one, shows up a woman driving with a child.

she parks right in the "fuel efficient vehicle only" spot, then goes to a different building with the child.

Obviously, I was surprised to learn that the Infiniti gigantic SUV thing was fuel efficient..  ...compared to a tank. yes.

Fuel Efficient Vehicles parking ONLY signs... do you obey?

lol I always park in them at IKEA because they are closest to the door and always empty.

Most people are sheep.  Nobody knows how efficient your car is.

My car has a CVT. That make it efficient.  ;) Well enough for me to justify parking.

The 340hp V8 hauls my Cayenne around quite efficiently, I'd rock the spot  :rofl2:

Wow, that's quite the sign.  Crazy even, considering the lack of a metric to measure 'efficiency'.  At least when a mall puts up a 'hybrid' parking only sign, then it's easy to decipher, whether your car is a hybrid or not.

I would be tempted to park in a 'fuel efficient vehicle only' spot with the Altima.  It is among the more fuel efficient vehicles on the road (when you consider all the crossovers, SUV's and trucks that are out there).

I agree that this sign is too subjective.

But if the sign said "Hybrid vehicles only", does that mean pure EVs are not allowed?

If I saw that specific sign I'd park in the spot just because the sign is so vague.

I would not park in an EV only spot though.

Meanwhile, I've seen those signs when I travel, not in Winnipeg yet.

I park as far away from the entrance as I can. Special parking spots attract unwanted attention.

Yup.  It's also healthier.  I park near the back, never across two spots, and usually so there's a pillar or curb on one side.

I do admit way back when, in the winter (parking lots full of snow) when the munchkin was very little, I used the "parent parking" on occasion so that I didn't have to try to wield the strolled through the deep snow.  But, most of the time, I just parked near the back.

What slays me is watching people circle the lot for 15min trying to park close to the door AT THE GYM.   ::)

Only 2 reserved parking spots in the OS other than the blue coloured "handicapped", namely expectant mothers and the Police.  I park in the Police spot.  Always empty.

There's a sign like that at MEC. Can't remember exactly what it says, but it's a little less vague (Hybrid vehicles only? Electric vehicles only?).

I think it's kind of silly, but I still don't park there. But, I will admit that I never pay for parking at MEC. Don't know if it's still the case or if I've just been lucky all these years, but MEC always had a no-ticket policy in their lot.

So I'm supposed to pay two bucks for parking, but there's zero consequence if I don't? Uh, good luck with that (yet everyone still seems to pay!  :rofl2: )

It's in downtown Calgary - and they're also trying to discourage car use.

That would 100% discourage my business there....

The you'd be unable to shop anywhere DT Calgary.  There's no such thing as free parking there - and what there is is very expensive.  Which probably makes most Calgarians happy - they love to pay a lot for things.

Well, there's a Safeway just down the street and plenty of other businesses nearby (The Bike Shop & Vistek, to name just a couple) that all have free parking.

(But I realize there's no such thing as "free" parking and that costs will be passed on elsewhere.)
