Find an aftermarket auto upholstery repair place.  Bet they can repair it for significantly less.

Yup.  The Tex in my C230 split prematurely and I took it to an upholstery shop and the total bill was about what he paid in labour.

Anyone know a reputable upholstery shop in Ottawa?

Here's an idea: get seats from the days when MB-tex could survive a nuclear war:

(from this thread: http://www.autos.ca/forum/index.php?topic=97037.40)

Needs "safety equipment", but at 100$ USD, can you really go wrong? And this has "Dent" written all over it  ;D

Try these guys...

Friend had them make new custom seat covers for his TR6 - did a great job and price was decent too.

There's also these guys, but no experience with them...

That cost from MB is nuts.

I had a tear and a spot where it wore through on the driver seat in my 3 last year, leatherette....dealer got a new seat unit ordered and installed under warranty, no cost to me.  I thought that was pretty good for something I was pretty sure they were going to tell me was normal wear and tear.

$2800 for a plastic seat cover ????  I thought I'd heard it all  ::)

I'd agree in finding a good automotive upholstery shop. It's a vinyl seat cover for God's sake....they could probably heat weld it.

edit

FWIW  I've always thought MB's CPO program and it's  coverage was pretty poor compared to some other brands like BMW, Audi, Volvo etc.
