Well, that's a surprise. First a Ford, now a Nissan.  :fall: ;D

Congratulations! Nice car.

Wasn't it you that said Nissan was a 2nd tier product?  ???
The Chrysler of Japanese brands. :D
That would be Mitsubishi.
That's an insult to Chrysler.  Mitsubishi is bottom of the barrel to me.  Not one vehicle I'd even consider looking at.  Kind of like Suzuki before they were mercifully taken out of our market.

Great looking car AS.  I've always thought the Maxima's have been very good looking cars indeed.

What cars did you consider and test drive?

Personally I'd probably end up with a base model Hyundai Genesis sedan if I was shopping in this category, but maybe if I got a discount like you on a Nissan I might end up with a Maxima as well.

None Johnny.  Told the wife that we had to clean out her car which is like a travelling wardrobe and that she was getting a Max.  Told her she had choice of the 4 colours.  Black, white, bright blue and grey.  Grey was it.

I've driven 2012 -2014 Max demos extensively and I really didn't like the powertrain.  Unless it was end of model year with $10K on the hood it was overpriced.  The main issue was the CVT which seemed to sap the guts out of the motor as the revs surged upward.  Just horrible.  2016 brings the new JATCO effort and if you weren't looking for it you would not know it was a CVT particularly when you mash it.

The Genesis AWD sedan is not even in the same orbit price wise.  There is $3K gross on a MAX SV.  Most sales managers will split that gross with a CarCost Canada buyer for example.  Then the key to that is .9 leasing or 0% financing.

Congrats, it's a very nice car.

I am a little surprised though...I always sorta figured you were with me in the "I'd rather put up with an ancient but maintained car than pay out monthly for a depreciating asset" camp.

You might be getting me confused with another member.  :)   The wife has been in new cars or used dealer demos for quite some time.  At your age you are, rightly so, saving money.  At my age I am spending money.  I get a sizeable discount on any Toyota or Nissan and another brand which I cannot bring myself to reveal.  This Maxima is costing me $435 mth.  Interest is .9% .  When the stock tires plus the winters are almost worn out I will get rid of it.  I'm thinking April/2018 which would be 3 years, 4 months into a 4 year lease.  It will cost be X oil changes.  I repaired cars for longer than you have been living.  ;)  I have other crap to fix instead.  I sold my 944 S2 because I got tired of pissing around with this and that.  So I bought the 2015 Mustang.  No leaks, no BS.  It's an age thing.  :)  But I do have enormous respect for DIYers.

Did you put anything down to get the 435 per month, that's a great lease payment.

How do you find the cvt, do you just get used to it or does it not even matter to you?

No down, but the key to the payment is the .9% rate for 48mth @ 20K km per year.

I suggest you try out the Nissan Maxima build it site and press "Payment Details".  Be sure to click "include sales tax" and "see full payment details".

Then go to "trade in" above those boxes and enter $1400. (SV model).  That represents a 4% discount off gross.  Be advised that all Nissan dealers will attempt to add "Globali" or similar 'protection package" for typically $500.  You must refuse this.  And since you are in an entirely market things might not be equal.

Used to be the sh*ts.  They've redone it for 2016 and you wouldn't know it even had one.

I did as you said for Saskatchewan and it came to $444. That's a great deal, especially for here.

Did you happen just to take out the Maxima for a test drive, and noticed how great the CVT was?  Like what led to try this vehicle in the first place, as you mention the previous years weren't great.

Also, as for the payment deal, was it just luck that this deal was on?  Or would you have got it either way, if the interest was a little 1.9% for example...

I literally had to pick my jaw up off the floor when I saw you bought a Nissan product.

Congratulations on the new car.  Looks like a sweet ride, and one can't argue with that price either!

What's your wife's average fuel economy in it?

My wife drives with a bit of a lead foot, and our 4-cylinder Altima's fuel economy has dropped to 10.6L/100km, mostly city driving.  I'm wondering if our next car shouldn't be a V6, if simply for the fact that it will be less stressed with the way that she drives.

Congrats on the Max!

I see no rebates whatsoever on the Nissan configurator in Qc, yet...

Sat in an SV recently and would really like to like it for my next purchase but not being able to downsize to 17'' wheels for the winter would be a deal breaker for me in my area.

The interior is quite luxurious for the price point but I was a bit disapointed at things like sound of the doors, cheap details and assembly more typical of american cars in what is essentially a made for America automobile.  The Murano next to it felt mostly the same.  I will check back later when I'm ready to trade but only if Nissan puts $$ on the hood.

The Nissan store sells 2 Maximas a year.  Usually one comes a demo.  This year they brought in a SR.  It was the 19s and the stiff suspension so it was an usually unpleasant ride.  However, I was very impressed with the new tranny.  Night and day from the previous gen 7.  Who knows how it will hold up, but that's yet to be determined.

As for the .9% .... well that's because Nissan Canada's numbers are way down on 2016 and for good reason.  It came out of the box @ 4.9 or 5.9 (can't recall exactly) and any idiot knew the car wouldn't move at those rates.  So now after they botched the launch they are throwing money at it.   And it is NOVEMBER.  I suspect no increase in rates until January at least.

Last night my wife got back from a 300 km round trip on rural highways so say average 95 kmph speed.  I had reset the mpg calculator the night before when I was entering her NAV destination.  Unfortunately, when she got back into town she made a stop and so mpg details were from just that short trip.  However, I reset it again.

Her trip to work and back is 7.9 km thru the city.  It was 0 C this morning and 4 C at noon when she returned home for lunch.  Car read 15.1 l/100.   I drove her back after lunch and returned home with the car (naturally  :) ) and it read 10.4 1/100.  It's 5c outside now.

I'm taking the car to the north part of Toronto on Thursday so that should be a good indicator of highway.  About 370 km return.

I believe 10.4 l/100 is the city mpg under good conditions.  I believe highway (100 kmph)is in the range of 7.6 1/100

I'm wondering if our next car shouldn't be a V6, if simply for the fact that it will be less stressed with the way that she drives.

Really depends on the individual car I think.
