My wife drives with a bit of a lead foot, and our 4-cylinder Altima's fuel economy has dropped to 10.6L/100km, mostly city driving. I'm wondering if our next car shouldn't be a V6, if simply for the fact that it will be less stressed with the way that she drives.Last night my wife got back from a 300 km round trip on rural highways so say average 95 kmph speed. I had reset the mpg calculator the night before when I was entering her NAV destination. Unfortunately, when she got back into town she made a stop and so mpg details were from just that short trip. However, I reset it again.
Her trip to work and back is 7.9 km thru the city. It was 0 C this morning and 4 C at noon when she returned home for lunch. Car read 15.1 l/100. I drove her back after lunch and returned home with the car (naturally
) and it read 10.4 1/100. It's 5c outside now.
I'm taking the car to the north part of Toronto on Thursday so that should be a good indicator of highway. About 370 km return.
I believe 10.4 l/100 is the city mpg under good conditions. I believe highway (100 kmph)is in the range of 7.6 1/100

Really depends on the individual car I think.
